I am affraid this day and age been hardworking and honest will get you nowhere when you ask for help, especially in this country, if your husband was a lazy scrounger that could not be bothered to get off his backside and find a job you would have money thrown at you, as you I don't know the system and struggle so sorry can't help you, but good luck !

Just apply for all the benefits that you can do & see whether you are entitled to anything.

contact your local council & benefits office & keep ringing people until they've sent you the forms. There's nothing to stop you in trying to claim for something, what's the worst that could happen ? they say no ?... and the best ?.... they say yes.

You also might want to try working families tax credit.

To be honest you are not on a low income but your expenditure is causing you hardship....£850 is a hell of alot to pay out each month on just the mortgage

Have you tried to claim working tax credit?...give the tax credits office a ring and ask about it. If you were claiming it before but are no longer entitled or you are repaying an overpayment ...contact them because they may be able to help on a short term basis

I would be very surprised if you will get any help from cuncil tax benefit because your income is substantial.....that is not to say you shouldnt try

With the Gross /Net question.....Gross income is earnings before tax and nat ins is deducted......after these deductions the total is 'net'

If the same question applied to household budgeting the gross figure would be the household income and the net would be the figure left after household bills/mortgage/car running costs/ loan repayments etc etc have been deducted

the way the counsil work it out is:
income has to be less than £16,000 BEFORE tax for a couple,
add your tax credits to this AND child benefit.
take away the mortgage payments and you have to have LESS than £75 per week left to be entitled to a discount.
i hope this helps
(other bills and food are not accounted for sadly)

I think your best bet is go to a "CAB" office & they will tell you all the help & benefits you can claim. They will even fill the forms in for you if you want them too. Good luck

For council tax purposes in the UK, it differs from council to council.

When you get your council tax bill, it should say on the back what the requirements are for a low-income discount.

In Glasgow, for example, low income is earning less than £10k per year, I think.

Gross = without tax applied
Net = after tax taken off

a household income of less than 12,000 is classed as a low income - that is actual cash after tax. nett is what you get in your pocket - gross is before tax and any other stoppages

Loan is a vicious circle and you are trapped in it. Take more loans to repay your old dues, contact banks.

The lowest earners in any given country.

Live and learn
If your outgoing necessities exceed your incoming monies, there is one of two things wrong... Either you are a low income wage earner or you are living beyond your means.. You need to list all your debts, list all your income, and if the bottom line is negative then you need to consolidate all your bills into one package, see about getting a new mortgage on your home, possibly with fixed lower rate and extended time frame to lower the payments and try to consolidate your bills into this package depending on the equity you have in the home... Gross income is before taxes, insurance, etc., etc., that comes from the check and net is what you are left with when you receive the check.. Consolidation of debt is a very good benefit if done correctly to get one payment.
