As a male you can earn a tax free income up to Rs.1,10,000 for this running year. Since you have only made Rs.80,000 , you are still short of Rs.30,000 tax free income. Make it fast. March 31 is coming fast.

no! u ll nt hv 2 pay ny tax

Your total income is exempt if:

For Finance Year 2006-07, your income is less than Rs 100000
For Finance Year 2007-08, your income is less than Rs 110000

Then your total income will be exempt.
(Here I assumed you are a male of less than 65 years)

In your case, since your income is less than the total exempted income, hence you will not have to pay an tax.

You sure will.

Without any deductions, you'll owe about $23,000.

EDIT: Wait. You're in India. You're not talking dollars, you're talking rupies. Never mind my answer.

im afraid the poster that said you owe around 23k is right. is that 80k a net capital gain??? meaning you had some capital losses... the net capital gain is taxed at a lower amount i believe its 15% maximum otherwise you get f'ed by the long schlong of the gov't.
