I know its 17.5% do you divide that into 80, I am confused.

£80 times (x) by 17.5% = £14.00

£14 vat on something that costs £80.

If the £80 already includes the vat then its £11.91.

Why has someone rated Florence as a bad answer? She is perfectly correct . In fact hers is the most easily understood reply

Florence-Anna
If you want to add the VAT to £80, x 17.5/100, or .175 = £14.00
If you want to calculate how much VAT is included in £80, divide £80 x 1.175 to give you the net figure and take that way from £80 to give you the VAT = £11.91

if it includes VAT then you do 7/47 x 80 = £11.91 VAT or if its without VAT you do 17.5% x 80 = £14.

propheticwalnut
£14, the easy way to work it out in your head is to work out a tenth, which is £8, then work out half of that , which is £4, then work out half of that, which is £2, then just add them together.

The formula is n-(n/1.175), where n is the price.

In your example, the VAT on £80 is £11.91

Hibee
VAT is levied at different rates on various goods and services. You would have to specify what you were buying or selling.
