bleweyez20249 | What is the allowable deduction per mile for an expense report? |
I need to fill out an expense report for work. It has been a while since I have had to do that and I don't know the current deduction for mileage (cents per mile) in the US. |

the irs allows a per diem per mile which is not taxable to an employee as reimbursable un under an "accountable plan". for the first half of the year the per diem per mile was 50.5 cents per mile. it is currently 58.5 cents a mile. |

Ask your manager. Your company may not be doing the federal rate. The companies I worked for never did.
Max is 58.5 cents for 7/1 to 12/31/2008. |

For an expense report for work, it's whatever the company allows. If the follow the IRS amount as many companies do, it's 58.5 cents per mile. |

Depends on the company. Some reimburse at IRS rate, many have different rates of their own. IRS has different tax rates for different purposes. but for business miles .505 per mile. ASK HR. |

If your employer uses the whole federal rate, it is 58.5 cents and has been since July 1 (50.5 before that). If they don't, you can take the difference on your taxes as an itemized deduction. |

Check the IRS website: www.irs.gov. There are three different rates, one for charity work, one for medical or moving trips, and one for business mileage. The IRS adjusts each year, and sometimes more than once per year, depending on the price of gas, oil etc. In 2007 the rate was 48.5 cents per mile for businee use. Announced rates for 2008 were 50.5 cents business, 19 cents per medical/moving miles, and 14 cents per charity use miles. Check to see if a second announcement was made. |
