As long as the money is used exclusively for school, it isn't taxable. If the money is used for something else, say to buy a car for the student to get back and forth to school in, that portion would be taxable. |

I'm pretty sure you don't pay taxes on things like that. Besides, very few students even hit the first taxable income bracket. |

Scholarship money used for tuition and fees is tax-exempt. Scolarship money used for room and board, most books, travel expenses, ect. is taxable and should be included on the earned income line on the tax return. Some special grants are totally tax-free. |

You do not pay taxes on grants and scholarships. |

Generally, scholarships, etc. are tax free, but not always. It depends on what you do for the money. They will let you know if it's taxable or not when you start taking money and at the end of the tax year. |

Not all scholarships are alike. Some are TAXABLE.. |

There are no taxes involved with things like those. The only difference when claiming them on your taxes is that it lowers the education credit that you get because those expenses weren't actually your own (they were paid for by the school, organization, or government). But, you don't actually have to PAY taxes on that money that you've gotten. |
