wave | What is the penalty for tax evasion? |
|
|

suerye
 |
Lots of guesses here - some of them very scary!
The maximum penalty is 100% of the tax evaded, plus interest. However, the penalty can be mitigated according to several factors such as the amount of the tax evaded, the length of time, the level of co-operation and whether or not the taxman found you out or you put your hands up.
You only get put in prison if the courts decide that you have been stupidly arrogant in the way you have evaded the tax. |

UK: penalty is 5 times default amount + up to 10 years in prison. |

You can be made to pay extra on top of what is owed and if funds arent there to pay up the chances are that you would get a jail sentence,i know somebody who this actually happened to.So it does happen contrary to what people think. It is now seen as a really bad offence to not keep up with your regular tax bill, theres no ifs or buts, and can happen to anyone. |

The Department imposes a $500 penalty on a taxpayer who files a frivolous return. A frivolous return is one that:
Does not contain sufficient information for the Department to determine the correct liability; or
Contains information indicating the liability is significantly incorrect; or
Indicates that the taxpayer is filing in a manner to delay or impede the administration of the PA tax law.
The Department may also prosecute any person who attempts to evade or defeat his or her PA tax responsibility. The penalty for evasion upon conviction can either be imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to $25,000, or both. Other violations could result in imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of $5,000, or both, and these offense include:
Willfully failed to file a tax return.
Willfully failed to pay the tax due.
Willfully failed to supply information.
Filed a fraudulent and/or false statement.
Prepared a fraudulent tax return.
Filed a fraudulent tax return. |

Depends on who you are. Ken Dodd escaped prison but the famous jockey Lester Piggot was put away for quite a time.
At the time, everyone thought this was very unjust.
I suppose is is the way things are - if your face fits etc. etc.
Best wishes and keep out of trouble. Chances are you may well get found out! |
