If the teacher gave you an actual number, then it is almost certainly wrong, unless it happens to be right by coincedence. The correct number can be different for each person, and even different each week.
Some of the taxes are fixed percentages. Figure at least 7.65% for these.
Other taxes are variable percentages that depend on how much money you make. They must, whether they want to or not, withhold a larger percentage in pay periods when you make more, and a smaller percentage in pay periods when you make less. They are not allowed to withhold the same amount every time. |
