What law says we have to pay taxes?
I can not find any laws that states we HAVE to pay taxes in the U.S.
Additional Details
Ok, if it is a law written everywhere.... i DARE you to call the IRS office and simply ask them, "Is it a written Law that we HAVE to pay taxes, and if so WHERE is it written down. I am not talking about state taxes, im talking about federal. You will be surprised that they can not answer your question. I have called them, and they can not answer me.

Most of the federal income tax laws are codified in Title 26 of the U.S. Code. You can read it at http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/26/ or at http://www.access.gpo.gov/uscode/title26/title26.html
The sections that apply to most people are 1, 61, 62, 63, 3402, 6001, 6011, 6012 and several others. Title 26 is known as prima facie law or evidence of the actual laws passed by Congress.

To read the actual laws passed by Congress, you have to look in the U.S. Statutes at Large. For the most part, these are not available online. However, you can find them at many Federal Depository Libraries(FDL) and many law libraries. You can find an FDL in your state at http://catalog.gpo.gov/fdlpdir/FDLPdir.jsp

Our current tax laws get their structure from the Internal Revenue Act of 1954 and the Tax Reform Act of 1986. The 1954 act can be found in Volume 68A starting on page 3 in the U.S. Statutes at Large. The 1986 act can be found in Volume 100 starting on page 2085. Both laws were passed by Congress and signed into law by a President. Various acts of Congress have modified those two laws throughout the years.

The 16th amendment was properly ratified and no court has ever accepted the argument that it wasn't. Additionally, once the amendment was ratified, none of the states listed as ratifying complained that they didn't really ratify it.

The income tax act of 1913 is no longer in effect. It was superseded by later tax acts many times. In either case, it was never enacted to only pay interest to the Fed. First, the income tax act of 1913 was passed shortly after the ratification of the 16th amendment in February of 1913. The Federal Reserve Act, which created the Federal Reserve, wasn't enacted until Dec. 1913. Secondly, the individual income taxes go to more than just interest on debt. The interest on the debt in 2007 was $430 billion. The individual income taxes collected in 2007 was $1.16 billion.
http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxfacts/displayafact.cfm?Docid=203
Besides, the Federal Reserve only earns a small amount of interest on the U.S. Government debt that it holds. In 2007, the Federal Reserve collected approximately $40 billion in interest on the debt it holds. AS REQUIRED BY LAW, the Federal Reserve returned approximately $36 billion to the U.S. Treasury.

EDIT:
It does not matter whether or not a random person at the IRS does not know the specifics about where the law is located. What DOES matter is the law exists. I have told you where to find it and read it. If you don't believe it, it only means you are delusional, not that a law does not exist.

THINGS I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL I SAW THEM ON THE INTERNET:

Nobody ever really landed on the moon - it was a giant hoax. What you saw on TV was filmed in Utah.

Elvis is still alive, and performing marriage ceremonies in Las Vegas.

It is unconstitutional for the government to tax your wages (income tax), the 16th amendment was never ratified, and most of what we think of as income isn't really income anyway.

Excuse me now....I just won 2 million pounds in the online UK lottery when my email was randomly selected, and I have to go answer the email.....

;-}

Read The Constitution. Specifically Article 1, Section 8. That grants Congress the power to lay and collect taxes.

If you can't find any laws that implement taxes, you must have your eyes closed. There are literally THOUSANDS of laws implementing one tax or another, at the Federal level, all 50 states, and virtually every county, city and town in the nation.

For the Federal income tax, Google "Title 26, US Code" for plenty of hits. You'll find it. All 64,000 pages of it.

There is no law that says we have to pay taxes in the US. There also isn't a law which says the gov't does not owe me $1 billion. I have been unable to collect. An amendment to th US constitution passed about 1913 gives the US gov't the power to tax income. It does not say the gov't has to.

Try the 16th Amendment to the US Constitution

he Sixteenth Amendment (Amendment XVI) to the United States Constitution was ratified on February 3, 1913. This Amendment overruled Pollock v. Farmers' Loan & Trust Co. (1895), which greatly limited the Congress's authority to levy an income tax. This Amendment allows the Congress to levy an income tax without regard to the States or the Census.

You can't find the law because your have your eyes closed. There is no point arguing with a fool.

Keep up the good work and you will find that someone from IRS will be available to give you an attitude adjustment.

Otaso
Section 11.64 of the book clearly states the different laws surrounding taxes.

urnidiot
The 16th Amendment to the US Constitution.

This is an intelligent factual answer. LOL

But, there is a dispute about the method used to ratify the 16th...some states may not have even done it...

I was talking with my brother about this and he mentioned that there isn't. It is sort of like singing happy birthday to someone you don't know but it's respectful/nice to sing anyways if it's someone close to you in a restaurant or in your class. I guess it's just expected since it pays for the great things like cops (yeah right) and other things like school funding (I guess my school's check got lost it in the mail) and some other actually helpful things like firefighters and paved roads.

Just so that you are aware and so that you don't waste any more time- you're not going to get an intelligent factual answer to this question on Yahoo Answers.
