Illiana Garcia | What percent [usually] is taken away from gross income to make it net? |
28% right? |
|

Usually, employers follow the law, which says that they must withhold different percentages from different employees, depending on how much they make and what they put on their W-4 forms. If an employer usually takes the same percentage from every employee, the employee is probably doing something illegal, unless all the employees are paid the same amount per pay period and they filled out identical W-4 forms. The single most common percentage is 7.65% because that percentage is the exact percentage for anyone subject only to FICA, social security and medicare withholding, and not to income tax withholding. Usually, income tax is also withheld, but in different percentages for each person.
The total might occasionally be 28% by coincidence, but very rarely. No single percentage is usually correct. |

It will vary depending on your income, but reducing your gross pay by 25-30% will give you a reasonable estimate of what your net pay will be. |

you can count on 6.2% for SS, 1.45% for Medicare, and possibly 1% or more for state disability
the amount for income tax will depend on the way you filed your W-4
the lowest fed tax rate is 10% |
