What percentage of pay is taken off for tax? And what percentage is taken off for National Insurance?
As above really - I want to calculate my pay very accurately.

Contrary to all the other answers.....

As a normal, run of the mill taxpayers this is how it goes!!

Look at what tax code is on your payslip. Most people have 522L. Remove the L and replace it with a 9, ie 5229. This is your tax free alowance for the year.

If you get paid weekly or monthly then you will need to divide the following figures by 12 or 52.

The first 5229 you earn is tax free, the next 2230 is taxed at 10% the next 32370 at 22% and the remainder at 40%.

With national insurance use your tax free allowance again and then the remainder is taxed at 12.8%.

Add the tax and ni deducted together and then subtract from your gross pay and you will be within a few pence of your net pay.

Hope this helps, if not send me your net pay figure and I'll show you the calculations.

Alex

It depends on how much you earn. If you are in the basic tax bracket (up to around £34k) then its 11% national insurance and 22% tax - but you obviously have your tax free bits depending on your tax code.

if you go onto www.hmrc.gov.uk then there is an online calculator that you can use.

It's difficult to give a definite answer as it depends on your tax code for tax.

It is 11% on all earnings over £100 for NI.

if you are in the lower tax bracket earning around £35,000
and you have a tax code of around 525L, this would allow you about £105 a week before you pay tax.
so, if you earn say £305 aweek, it would go a little like this>
£305 - £105= £200.
£200 - 31% = £138.
£138 +£105= £243.
this is my easy way to work it out.
£305 gross = £243 net (take home)
this is roughly what you could expect,
because there is also a tax free amount
to take into account.
hope it helps

What salary - check out the HMRC site.

i think it depends on what tax code you have...

Mike Sanders
the amount of tax is dependant on your income and if you have any tax exclusions/write offs.

Speak with an accountant.
