What should I do if I didnt get the correct amount for my tax rebate?
I should get $900.00 for me and my son, but only got $600.00

Micki
Check to see how much your income qualifies for. Remember, the $600 that the IRS claimed that would be the rebate amount is the Maximum amount - not the automatic amount - that everyone receives.

Wait for the confirmation letter. If it claims you didn't have a qualifying child under the age of 17 (whose exemption you claimed on your tax), then and only then should you call the IRS.

Chances are that you DID get the right amount, but are only eligible for $300 for yourself plus the $300 for your son. You get UP TO $600 - the $600 is for people whose federal income tax liability for 2007 was at least that much. Otherwise you get the amount of the tax, with a minimum of $300 assuming that you qualify for the stimulus payment.

Before you contact the IRS, make sure that your rebate check was wrong.

The Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator at irs.gov will tell you what your payment should be. You need your tax return. All you need to do is enter some numbers from your tax return and the calculator tells you what your rebate is.

The IRS will also send you a letter detailing how your rebate was calculated.

Chances are you qualified for $300 and your son qualified for $300. Not every individual gets $600.

Check the IRS web site and recalculate again. There are a few reasons. You owe taxes, college loans, child support, you do not earn enough, or too much, yes it is quite confusing.

bud68
Chances are you DID get the correct amount - you just misunderstood what it is. The $600 for you is a maximum amount , not everyone qualifies for it.

crywater2000
You got 300 each. your tax liabilty was no more than 300. it was "up to 600"

MISS JENN
There is a misconception that people are getting 600 + 300 per child...in actuality you could get UP TOO 600.00. That doesnt mean u will or would get the entire 600.00. It depended on ur net tax liability
