Make arrangements to make payments. After this amount of time, there will be a lot of penalty and interest to pay also.

Have you prepared your taxes? Are you sure you owe?

If you have your paperwork - W2's, 1099's get a friend to recommend a tax preparer. Avoid the chain store tax people if you can. Most interpret the law in favor of the IRS when there are interpretations that could benefit you.

As a last resort if you don't have income records the IRS can give them to you, and they will file returns for you, too, at no charge.

If you owe request an "Offer in Compromise", if you are truly unable to pay. A substantial payment, approx 20% of tax liability must accompany the application - had you done it earlier you might not have had to pay anything.

If you have a question e-mail me. Good Luck.

Contact them and work a repayment plan with them. IF you can pay it all, they may accept a lesser amount. You need to take care of it because the IRS is nothing to mess with.

cherryfrank@sbcglobal.net
Make arrangements to pay them monthly. The interest keeps growing...they won't "just let it slide."

single mom
You better own up! The longer you take the more the penalty interest is! Also you can go to jail for tax evasion and the IRS can confiscate your property, Ira"s, whatever you own and can get away with it. They will let you make payments.Good luck!

1) go straight to the IRS and see what you can do -- Can you pay this amount off in payments? Do you owe less than $25000?

If you have assets an offer in compromise usually does not work if the assets and earning ability is more than what you owe.

The IRS has been cracking down on debt counseling agencies. Many of them are for profit agencies and are out to collect for themselves.

Paying taxes is a requirement, any one who tells you otherwise is leading you astray. Misinformed and tax challenged people who believe that taxation is optional often end up in prison serving time. They are also fined generous amounts by judges.

You didn't say whether or not they are coming after you for it, or if you just haven't paid it.

I was behind, so I wrote the IRS a letter and included it with my tax return. I told them that I didn't make much money, but that I could afford to pay them $100 per month until it was paid back. They sent me a letter back stating that they would accept $50 per month.

I made my payments and made double payments when I could and it has been behind me for many years now.

SUCCESS!
