it should be on your pay stub, if you can't find it you could call HR, they should be able to tell you.

Robert D
No it is a private number. A personal identity item.

Wait for your W-2. First of all, you can't legally file until you have it. And second, even if you try to fake it and file online as if you have it, there are too many ways you can end up filing wrong info and then end up having to do an amended return - that's why the IRS doesn't allow filing without a W-2.

Wait for your W-2

This site will get you the answer you need.
www.freeerisa.com
(you will have to create a username/password which takes a few seconds). My husband started a new job and hasn't received his W2 yet so I started to prepare our taxes since I had mine but didn't have his info. (I use an online service and it won't allow you to enter W2 info unless you have the EIN) I did a quick google search and found this site and it gave me the info I needed. Hope this helps!!!!!!

http://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html The above link is the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) EDGAR Database. Type in the name of the company, if it is a publicly traded company, then their filings will be listed there. On the first page of each companies filings, in the upper right hand corner, you will find the companies FEIN, Federal Employer Identification Number. It is harder to acquire an employers state identification number.

mac4ames
your employers tax id # is on every pay stub (by law).

it will probably start with "04-............." might be listed on your stub as "EIN" ...
