What tax form should I use?
This would be my first time trying to file my taxes on my own. I'm married and have two kids. I own my home so I will be itemizing my deductions. What is the best way to file, e-file, paper, tax office. I've filed w/ H&R Block in the past years and they've charged way to much. I'm going out on a limb to try to file them myself. Please help!!

I suggest using taxact - jackson hewiit was going to charge me $300.00 to do my taxes as self employed person.

I did it with tax act last year- found more stuff then jackson hewitt told me and they actually did mine wrong. i was very pleased and it s very helpful and only cost me $20 for state and federal

I also found out that H&R and Jackson hewit are not professionals - most never went to college and have not studied finanical stuff - they go to a training class and they use a online tax thing (like tax act ) to walk them through it.

I'm an accountant....Relax...You're right, H&R Block charges way too much. There's alot of software you can use, but don't buy them. Use a service online...it's much cheaper. I use Tax Act....You can Google it....and file online....I think I paid $15 to file both federal and state last year. It's really easy....It walks you through the whole process. All you have to do is input the information and answer the questions. Let me know if you need any help. Good luck.

e-file is the best!!

eFile is easy and inexpensive. Go to the IRS website and tehy will help you find a free file site. It will walk you rightthrought it. I always use Turbo Tax.

Well, you can do it manually. I like to use turbo-tax because after you put in your names and SS number, you never have to type them again. Next year, if you use Turbo Tax, it will bring all your info forward. It also adds as you go and changes your tax on the spot. I don't use the interview, I just go to form 1040 and fill in the blanks. If the info comes from another form on that line, it takes you to the proper form. Then prints your form or electronically sends it off or both. It is so cool.

I use turbo tax, which also works online, and it's very easy i've use them for about 3 years now and it's all there you just input ( answer) the questions and click away, don't get too fancy with the high end turbo tax soft ware just get one that have stat, fed, itemizing, i think the one in the middle should do just fine, cause i think they have like the state, fed, and then basic, then two other one. i would go with the basic, or one above that. hope this help it's very easy and you can use them every year i think there is a $50.00 efile fee..

When it comes to itemizing it's usually best to leave it to the professionals. H&R is expensive so you might be able to find another company thats cheaper, but make sure they have a good reputation.

Get the 1040 form. Fill out Schedule A for deductions. It is easy. Do it yourself, then you learn what will benefit you for many years. I have done my own for 50 years. Yes, I am in my 70s. Don't waste time or money paying others to do it. Cheers.....

I suggest to go to a professional to do it, They know their work and you may earn more money. So it is worth the service charge.
