Go to one of their offices if you can, if not, write them through snail mail. They also have a problem resolution office (maybe a phone?) if you have a disagreement about the bill.

If you gave a little more info, you could get better answers.

Did your tax return this year show that you owe, but always before you got a refund? If nothing much changed (salary, withholding, marital status, filing status, dependents, no dependent turned 17) then it's possible it's a mistake - look at last year's return and this year's, and see where the big difference is.

Did your tax return show that you owed money, but you didn't have it to pay them? Call them and ask to set up a payment plan.

Did you think you were OK when you filed, but you got a letter saying you owed more? That might or might not be correct. If you didn't report some stock sales, for example, the IRS would only have some of the info needed to calculate what you really owe, so it's possible they think you owe when you really don't. If you got a letter from them saying you owe, contact your accountant if you have one, or go over your return to try to understand what they are saying, then talk to them and see what needs to be done from there - but be sure to respond IN WRITING by whatever date they give on the letter.

If your question is something else, please repost with more detail.

They don't usually make mistakes. It's possible that you made a mistake on your return. Call them to find out what's going on. If you do owe them, they are reasonable with repayment. Don't ignore this, it will not go away.

Call the IRS office you send your tax return to - they can answer this and also pull up data on any money you may owe. They were very helpful when I called a couple of weeks back - both the federal and state folks.

Did you forget to report all your income, maybe you forgot one to include the wages from one of your w2's. call IRS at 1-800-829-0922 to set up an installment agreement or visit www.irs.gov and down load form 9465, installment agreement request. The fee for an installment agreement is $105.00 or if you use direct debit from your checking account the fee is $52.00.
good luck.

Check their website and get a phone number. It is better to call, the wait is not that bad and they can explain the details to you.Another option is to make an appointment at your local office. They will sit with you and discuss your issues.Always bring all necessary papers with you.Mistakes happen.Do not despair.Good luck in resolving everything.

Call the IRS and ask them. You'll be on hold for a while, but be patient. As long as you're willing to pay, they will set up a payment plan and work with you.
If it's too much money, apply for a signature loan and pay the whole thing off, and make payments to a consumer lender.

How about to the bank to get money to pay the bill? If that is not a reasonable alternative, if the amount due is less than $10,000 IRS will let you pay the balance over three years if you request an installment agreement. If you can pay the balance in three or four months, just wait until your bills come in and send what you can then.

Go over the return again. Have someone else or a computer program do it. If they still want extortion money, they will work out a payment plan. If it is a small amount pay it. Paying a samll amout every year is better than a refund. A refund means you paid too much.

Of course when the FAIRTAX ACT H.R. 25 passes, you will have no income tax no withholding.
NO MORE IRS
Only a retail sales tax on new items only. check it out. www.fairtax.org
