What would you do in this? Advice needed?
I have worked in my company for a year and in that time been promoted to manageress. I work 4 days a week, 10 hour shifts as I live 30 miles away from my job. This is all agreed.
About 4 months back we had a problem where all the staff left except me and my boss replaced them. At this point he hired a person who is highly qualified but has an attertude that is less to be prized. I have on a number of occations spoke to my boss about this as he is of the opinion that qualifications are fantastic. I myself do not have them as I had to leave school and my home at a young age and never got the money or time to do them. I have been working in my feild as a manager for over 7 years and can do my job. As he could see by promoting me? Because I work 4 days not seven (40Hours) he has now talked to me about making the other highly qualified person up to manager too on the days I am not here? Over the other staff. Joined the same time. Only I know we will over lap and She will boss me around?

Its bad enough now before she recieves any further boost to her ego she is making me very miserable at work. Constantly undermining me and telling me what to do. Surely when I talk this through with my boss rather than encouraging her by stroking her ego a bit more.

sounds like u might have a case for constuctive dismissal.........however in the first instance I would start keeping a diary of events with this person, ie what they did to undermine you and when, who with ect.............if there are some other staff that you can trust I would get them on side and get some statments off them too........then present your boss with all the facts in a formal 1-2-1 meeting, if he does not take any action diary this as well and start looking for another job..........one with a company that will not make empty promises........as for working for 40 hours a week most companys consider that to be a full time job..........it sounds like we work for the same company lol.

I would suggest you to stay calm as much as possible. You can`t plan anything good without a calm mind.
The best way would be to find any fault with her, which personally hurts you, and after that just don't talk to her for few days. Do your work calmly.
She will be on her knees very soon, because anyone can`t afford to be ignored so badly.
You do your part of job, and just report to the boss. Do not pin anything to the boss about her, being boss he will think you feel jealous, and that would leave a bad impression of you.

She tells you something? or advise you for something, just react like a deaf n dumb.

She will not stay calm anymore.

Defeat people with your peace of mind, not with a bad reaction, if you keep reacting like that, she will have the advantage.
Just relax, take deep breath. and Do your job without noticing her anymore. She will loose to you automatically, cuz whatever she is trying to do is, just to annoy you. Once ignored, she will react like a brain less person.

it's possible but u have to show that your place is as equal as hers.if she tries to bully u away u have to stand up for yrself and show her that she can't do that and that u will fight for yr place.good luck.

If you are both on the same level, then the other person has NO right to boss you around. In my view experience counts for a lot more than qualifications and so the situation is nulled. You are both of equal standing and should co operate with each other.
Diplomacy is called for here Michelle, diplomacy and professional courtesy. Rise above it if the other person plays you up. In my experience if you give them enough rope they hang themselves.

Be nice and carry on with your work. You have had recognition from your boss.

You need to sort out with your boss, who will have the upper hand when you are both on at the same time, it's not a good idea to have two bosses with different ideas, I would think because you have been there the longest you are in a manager position, you would have more superiority.

den invent
just get on with your side and ignore her

I CAN SEE THE GREEN EYED MONSTER APPEARING ON THE HORIZON.............YOU CAN DO YOUR JOB AS YOU HAVE PROVED OVER THE YEARS ...SO DONT LET SOMEONE ELSE GETTING PROMOTED GET YOU DOWN........JUST GET ON WITH DOING YOUR JOB

Jason you weirdo.

I think you have an inferiority complex about not having any qualifications. You obviously have great ability to do your job, so lack of official academic qualifications is irrelivant. Many of the world's most successful people didn't go on to higher education, and a few barely finished school, as I'm sure you're aware. I think you need to deal with this underlying issue as it seems to be causing a crisis of confidence on your part (but not on anybody else's confidence in you!).

Why should this woman boss you around? You are sure she is not smarter than you, so what is it? Is she more confident? More assertive? More articulate? Or do you think other people will respect her qualifications more than they will respect your experience (they won't - qualifications do not necessarily translate into the real working world). Find out what's really bugging you and sort it out, or you risk seeming jealous and petty. I suspect this problem is more in your head than in your office.

However, if you find that not having certain technical qualifications is really holding you back in your field then go and get them as soon as you can. You are obviously smart and this may just reassure you just how smart you are.

That was then when you couldnt get the qualifications, how about now, as part time, talk to your boss, do the course like the other manager , so you can be on top too, its not too late, but yeah somtimes, if your quafied for a job, your more likely to be expected, lol these days there say experience and also qualification, but there one thing I have always tired to impove myself like take courses, and I actually must agree that it has put me in a postion where emplyee have like me just because of have the qualifcation.
