Neither. I would prefer to keep my money and spend it myself. What is more important to me is that if money must be spent that the money be spent wisely and thriftily so that the government does not have to ask me for more. |

I would rather keep my money and spend it how I see fit.
Personal spending creates more jobs than goernment spending (which helps keep cities maintained, provides jobs for everybody, and allows healthier investing for people who are smart enough to save for their future). Charities are a lot more effective at spending their money wisely than any government program. And if I see a private charity is wasting my donated money, I can give to another agency.
And of course, no lobbyist is every going to influence how I spend my own money. If government has my money, there will always be a lobbyist there telling a politician how to spend my money (remember, they are not spending their own money, they spending somebody elses money). If the government has any money, I can guarrentee that it will be spent on things that I do not approve of.
But I would first want my tax money to be spent on a strong national defense before a dime is spent on any social programs. Although I do agree that to much money is spent on the military (in the name of defense). |

Defense for the most part. I am not opposed to LIMITED social spending for those who cannot care for themselves or who live in poverty. |

Unfortunately, it cannot be either or. Plus you need to add infrastructure, like road, bridges, sewers. We need to have enough taxes (but just enough?) for what we really need and for what would make a healthy society. |
