kurdgirl | Whats the difference btwn 1 and 0 on a W-4? |
For example: If you put 1, you get more money taken out each paycheck and less of a tax refund and if you put 0 you get less taken out each paycheck and more of a tax refund.
Is that right, or do I have them switched around? |

Switched.
If you're single, claim 0 and have more taken out NOW so you don't have to pay when filing your return. |

Yah, you have them switched around. 0 holds back more and you get a larger return later, 1 leaves you at risk for owing the government. Claim 0! |

With 1 more is taken out, but your refund is bigger if you have one - with zero, less is taken out but your refund is less also. It's the same amount of money total, the only thing that changes is when you get it. |

If you put 1 it means that you are claiming yourself and no one else can, and that you will get more money on your check, but may end up getting little back on your return or maybe even owe them.
If you put 0 it means that you are not claiming anyone and that you will have more taken out of your check but will get more back in your return and wont owe them. |

the more dependants you claim the less they take out of your check for taxes. you can claim up to 9 even if you have no dependants. problem with that is they take out hardly any from your check and you will end up oweing alot at tax time. its not a huge differance between claiming one or zero. if you want a bigger refund claim zero but remember more will come out each check. might as well claim one that way you have the money each check to do what you want with it. why let the government hold all your money and THEY make interest on it. depends on how much money you make. if you claim one and you make alot you may owe at tax time |

You can claim between 1 and 10. The higher the number, the more money you'll have in your paycheck. Depending on how much you make during the year, you may end up paying taxes or not, (you did not specify your income bracket) but at least you had access to more money during the year, and if you're smart, invested that money so that you have enough to pay the fees, and also have something left over for yourself. Otherwise you're giving money interest free to the irs at no benefit to you whatsoever. |

u get more money taken out but i get a big refund at the end of the year, like this time next year, filing 0 you get minimal taxes taken out of your check but u get no refund next year. |

Yes, you have it right. The 1 and 0 are how many people you're claiming as a dependent. You could claim yourself as 1 if you wanted to, or even more if you have a spouse or kids. |
