Imagine that the United Kingdom is like a medieaval monastry before good King Henry VIII abolished them.
The individual monks (us) were poor, the owned nothing. Everything was given to the Order.
The Monastry and Church was often filthy rich and the Abbot lived in fine style.
Nobody could see anything wrong with this arrangement until the king decided that he wanted a piece of the cake.
All the time the ordinary peasants lived in poverty and had no say in how it was all run.

All good points. But our kids don't die up chimneys or in factories, medicine is at it's most developed ever, you can get a large can of beans for 29p (Midlands), and most people who cry "poverty" have satellite TV and an Internet connection. REALITY: In global terms and historical terms we are at the economic height of the British Empire, yet we still have all the Winging Willys. Imagine how much whining they would do if we ever start having real-world problems again?
I totally agree that the points you have raised are vitally important, but it requires decisive and intelligent leadership and an honest media to sort these problems out. It is not about wealth. |
