It is irrelevant and should be removed from the forms. It has no effect on your tax return, and any presidential candidate can get the money (if they meet the rules), regardless of whether or not people check that box.

It's a fund of matching dollars that goes to presidential campaigns. It doesn't raise your taxes...just earmarks where $3 should go.
If you believe that federal tax money should be used to fund political campaigns, then check the box. If not, don't.
It's not actually your money you're donating. But it always gives me a tiny sense of satisfaction to say no when I'm asked.

It's a fund established to fund the presidential election. All viable candidates are allowed to use Federal Funds to fund their campaigns. So when you hear the news outlets mention that a candidate will receive $400 million for his campaign this is where the money came from. It is voluntary and will not reduce your refund.

It's a fund that pays toward election expenses of presidential candidates. There's a question on the tax return that asks if you want to contribute. I don't remember anyone ever saying "yes" to that question of all the returns I've done.

It's to help for the campaign fund. I like the idea of it because it seems like it gives more power to the people. However, in practice, I'm not sure the candidates that take the money see it that way. I'm not sure. Do they see it as taxpayer money or government money?
