Technically January 1, but efiling isn't available Federally until mid-January, and employers have until Jan 31 to put your W2 in the mail.
I'm always ready to go when I get my last pay stub of the year but I prefer to wait until my W2 is in-hand, and I recommend that to my tax clients.

You need to clarify your question. Personal and business taxes can differ.

If you had all of the necessary information regarding income you could file on Jan 1 every year if you are filing a paper return. If you are e-filing there is some date in early January when the IRS will accept e-filed returns. I would imagine that you want to file early to get a refund if that is the case be very cautious about those companies that do "pre-file" loans. While you can do some of those in December you would be better off with a loan shark.

If you mean personal income taxes for an employee, the earliest you could have the required information is when you receive your last pay statement of the year. To actually file, you must wait until your W-2 is issued. Your employer has until the end of January to mail the W-2.

Taxes are due mid-April. Online programs like hrblock are usually available by late January.

As soon as you get your w2 form and gather up all income tax info used for deductions. Employers have until January 31 to get the w2 forms to employees and you have until April 15 to mail your income tax. that is without asking for an extension for filing
