Public schools are a right in this country. The public pays for them and everyone can (and is required to) go. I prefer this type of system as opposed to say......Afghanistan. That's not to say that there aren't improvements to be made but it is a governmental unit and well, they are notorious for running things inefficiently. |

Universal education has long been a basic staple in the U.S. It is a State matter and the funding is handled in several ways throughout the U.S. Property taxes are probably the most popular form of funding for schools and has as many detractors as it does supporters. Since education is considered a priority by our society, the burden is borne by all members of society, whether they have children in school or not. |

If I understand you, you make a very good point. It seems to me that school districts hold a gun to the taxpayers' head without justifying anything. "Pay up. It's for our children's future."
How about trimming the layers of fat from the administration? Then there would be more money for the classroom. We would be more likely to see better results. Consequently, most taxpayers, I suggest, would be prepared to pay more property taxes to fund a superior school system, which benefits society as a whole. I object to my hard-earned money going to fund mediocrity. |
