What you get are w-2s and 1099s. You use them to prepare your 1040 which you send to the IRS. If you are due a refund and have provided the IRS with your bank account number you can expect your refund within 6 weeks normally.

You don't. A 1040 is a tax return that YOU submit to the IRS.

You're supposed to keep a copy for yourself. The IRS doesn't return your original 1040.

Laissez-Faire Guy
You never get the form back. You are supposed to keep a copy for yourself when you send it in.

Eugene D
You will not get the form back. Make a copy before you send it in. If in future years, you need a copy and can't find yours, you can request a copy from the IRS (they keep all tax returns stored on microfilm). It will cost you about $20.00 and will take 6 to 8 weeks to get it. Make copies and save yourself time and money

They won't even be mailed until the first of the year. And, after you file them they are not returned.

Once you have filed the form 1040,you don't receive it back. However, you can get a copy of your 1040 transcript by ordering it direct from the IRS.

You should file form 4506-T
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506t.pdf

You mean when will you receive the Form 1040 and instruction in your mail, usually IRS mails them out in late Dec. If you don't receive one you can always go to IRS website www.irs.gov and download the forms you need or call IRS Form phone number 1-800-829-3676
