When e-filing individual taxes, do i need to mail anything, like w-2's?

Only if the tax prep software tells you to.

If you electronically sign your return with a self-selected PIN then there's generally no need to file any paper documentation.

If you didn't electronically sign your return then you must sign and mail in the Form 8453-OL that the software will automatically kick out.

Most other documentation such as Forms W-2 or 1099 do not need to be filed in hard copy since the IRS already will receive copies of them. Do keep copies of them in case there are any future questions from the IRS. I've seen occasions where the IRS never received W-2 information for any number of reasons and they came back to ask the taxpayer for copies.

Most online tax programs (TurboTax, TaxCut, etc.,) allow you to enter the W-2 information onto an online form. There is then no reason to mail an actual W-2 form.

This only applies if you are filing electronically. If you are mailing in a physical tax return, then yes, you must attach your W-2 form to either your State or Federal form, or both.

It depends - normally you don't have to mail any supporting documentation, but whatever software you're using to file your taxes should walk you through the steps.

And you should only have to mail a signature if you don't satisfy the electronic signature requirements. (Usually providing information from last year's tax return)

Not if you're e-filing... that's why it's called e-filing!

If you efile online you don't have to mail anything. If you choose to mail your return in then all you have to do is sign and mail in the return you printed.

taxes are now auto maid ,they do the job, but if you do it, yes .you must send the necessary papers

Angela
The only thing i had to mail was a paper i printed out with my signature

when e-filing you have to mail in your local taxes along with the 1 w-2 per job that says "attach with local, city, or state form"

state and federal should go through online

go to irs.gov, and visit their FAQ's page.

Cotton
Yes, you have to mail a form that your software should tell you to print out, sign, and attach your W-2.
