The IRS doesn't accept electronic sunmissions until 01-12-07. You can mail it in but it will not be processed until at least 01-12. You can go to H&R Block now and get a non standard Refund anticipation loan, which is based on your last stub, but the fees are pretty high. This will also only work if you hvae good credit as all it really is is a standard bank loan that you get based on your credit, and it has to be repaid out of you actual check. In ohio it has to be repaid by 02/24/07. If you can wait until you get your W-2 sometime in late January or early February, I would wait. If you wait until you have your W-2, you can get a standard RAL which gives you money the same day or next, with much lower fees.

You must wait to get your W-2 forms from your employer. You can prepare your Form 1040 based off of your last paystub, but the IRS requires a copy of your W-2 form. By law, your employer is required to provide your W-2 form on or before Jan. 31st.

You have to attach your w-2 to your returns. Those have to be mailed to you by 1/31/2007.

Do you really want to go to H&R Block? I took their course to be in compliance with CA tax preparer laws and the calaber of the preparers is REALLY POOR. (AKA incompetent, don't have a clue as to what they are doing, be really careful, don't understand tax law, etc...) It is really easy for the dumbest idiot to pass their course. I have been preparing tax returns for about 20 years so I know what I'm talking about with regards to these H&R graduates.

I think you can file as soon as you have all the information. Here in AL we have had H&R block ad's running for a couple of weeks that say they can make loans on your return based on your paycheck now. So if you really want your money try it.

Need your W2's first before you can file.

Jen
you need to be able to attach your w-2's or 1099 form with it, which employers are not obligated to send until before Jan 30. you can do your taxes now, and as soon as you have them, send them in. be weary of h and r advanced refund, its a loan

Teri Molina
You can go now, all they need is your last pay stub with the end of year earnings and withholdings.

tictoc
You need to have all your work and bank tax forms, then you can file.

Mahal
You can actually file any time you want. You don't even have to wait until the end of the year. I've never applied for a refund before year end, but I suspect the IRS will await the tax cycle to process your return.

Now. The wisest thing to do would be to wait 'till the 12th. Last year my husband filed early and he had a delay because of the electronic filing.

Call H & R Block and ask them. They used to do taxes from a pay stub, but I'm not sure they'll do it any more. You still have to have your paperwork from your job before you send it in anyway.
