TwinMomma | When on maternity leave can you file for unemployment benefits? |
|

It depends on the state. My man's cousin was in Louisiana, went into their office and applied when she was like 8mths very pregnant. They gave her benefits, then after the baby was born, told her she shouldn't have gotten them and she had to pay them back!
You can't get temporary disability? I got that when I had my last son, I live in CA. If all else fails, you can file for AFDC for financial assistance. But remember that they will go after the birth father for reimbursement. If you just get foodstamps, they won't. Also, you can get WIC right now and after the baby is born.
Good luck & God Bless you & your little one! |

Not in the US. To claim unemployment, you have to be seeking work and able to work. If you are on maternity leave, you are either no able to work or are not seeking work.
If you have a short-term disability or replacement income policy, it may pay you during maternity leave. |

No because in order to collect unemployment you have to be employable and you aren't according to your Dr or your current employer. |

No.
The Family Leave Act only requires 12 weeks WITHOUT PAY be offered to pregnant mothers. The firm/company must keep your job open but they do not have to pay you and you cannot collect unemployment. If your company has disability insurance, that may cover part of your regular income depending on what level you select. I have seen disability rates between 50 and 90 percent, but you must pay a premium to insure even a partial coverage.
The US is one of the few industrialized nations that does not offer true coverage. Some companies do exceed the minimums, but not many in my experience.
You need to contact your HR department and see what is available. If it is a small business (<50 employees), do not count on much in the way of assistance. WIC and AFDC are based on income and if you are in a low wage job, you will need to check into available benefits through these programs. However, these do not replace income - they provide food.
I hope you are saving your pennies and that you at least have decent health insurance.
Good luck! |

To get unemployment, you have to be seeking work and available for work. Maternity leave is considered disability leave - so first of all you are not available for work, and secondly, you are still employed by your employer. So no, you would not be eligible for unemployment.
As far as family medical leave goes, you might or might not be eligible for this UNPAID leave. Employers with less than 50 employees are not required to give this leave, and you have to have worked for the company for over a year to be eligible. |

Depending on your state, it's typically disability you apply for and they pay you through your maternity leave.
Search it through Yahoo and input your state and you'll find the maternity leave act that applies to you. |

It depends on your state. California now has a maternity leave program with money coming from disability insurance. |

No because most companies will be sympathetic and let you be gone for whenever but you're still employed w/the company. So no you can't file unemployment. |

if you are working , you are automatically entitled to the familly leave act, for about 12 weeks and more .that pays you disability, and thats better then unemployment pay |
