theresababb | When someone gives you money (gift), do you have to pay tax? |
when someone gives you money or help you out with your bills, do you have tax? |

As long as the monetary gift is $10,000 or less then no, you are not required to report it for tax purposes. |

Nope. Gifts are never taxable to the person who receives them, and they are not deductible to the person giving them.
By the way, the gift tax return is only for the person who gives the gift, and it was $12,000 for 2008, rising to $13,000 for 2009.
And inheritance taxes are paid by the estate, not by the person who receives the inheritance. |

In 2008 the free limit was 12K; it is set to increase to 13K in 2009. This is for gifts and what you do with the money is your business. |

The only time you have to pay tax on money family or friends give you is if they passed away and left you with it. That is inheritance tax, but since they were not deceased when they gave it to you, then definitely "NO"! |

no, but if it's over like 10k you do... it's called a gift tax |
