When will I get paid? I work at a grocery store in Canada.?
So, I got hired at a grocery store 3 weeks ago. During the first week on Thursday it was payday for everyone else. Now it's 3 weeks in and pay day is this Thursday. I've been there 3 weeks now, so will I get held back on this Thursday coming up? I don't see why I would since but some are saying I will, some are saying I won't.

It depends on how the pay periods co-incide with your start date. For example, the payday on Thursday of your first week was probably for the two weeks before you started, which is why you didn't get anything. The payday is usually 5-8 days following the end of the pay period, to allow for tabulation of hours worked and calculation of the payroll amounts. Thus you should expect to receive a full paycheque on the coming payday. But you should certainly clarify this with a company official.

Have you asked your boss? That would be the place to start. Nobody here is going to know.

Sounds like you employer pays based on the previous pay period. If thats the case, you'll receive the short week's pay on Thursday, and a full pay next payday.

Its not as bad as it may seem though, when you quit/leave, you'll get the extra pay period then.

Ask your manager. Call Human Resources.

I would check with your team leader/manager.

You should be getting paid a week after you started working. A working week usually starts on Monday and finishes on Sunday. You should have been paid on the second week. Find out why you haven't been paid yet and if they are still holding out on you, make a compliant to Human Resources

I understand how this is difficult for you, you've been working but the money hasn't caught up with you yet. Do you remember when you were hired asking about how the pay was structured, do they pay weekly, every two weeks, monthly? Did you remember to fill out a TD1 for them with all the information they need, SIN, DOB, address etc? Once all that information went to the payroll department they will be able to add you to the payroll rolls. Some companies have a hold back policy, most however run a normal EI work week which is Sat to Sat. Depending when you were hired your first week would be a short week, and the payday you mentioned was probably for the week prior to when you were hired....so I expect you were picked up on the short week, added to the next week and then the payroll was processed. Chances are good you will get at least a part week cheque with this pay period.

pay in most places in bi-weekly (twice a month) occurring on the 15th and 30th or 31st of the month. earlier by a day or two if it falls on a holiday.

Ahhhh....Yup

maybe you were hired as an unpiad intern. hey dont get greedy, your getting valuable on the job training, and if you show you are a good worker they might offer you a paid position one day.
