Where can I get a list of houses that are being sold for back taxes (tax liens)?
I am wanting to buy a house that has a tax lien on it so that I can get a large loan and pay a small amount for the house so that I can fix that house up the way that I would like it to be.

Even if a house is siezed for a tax lien, it will still probably have a mortgage on it. You will need to pay off the primary mortgage, and all other mortgages and liens. You can't just buy the house for the cost of the back taxes.

Your local town or county tax division should have a list of houses for sale.

Mortgage lenders such as banks have knowledge of people ready to default on their loan. Many times they are delinquent on their mortgage before their taxes, and the tax man isn't aware of problems until they become tax delinquent.

The county tax man is a good source of information and so are individual banks.

They are always listed in the paper. You need to balance the pros and cons when you get the information.

just because a house has a tax lien doesnt mean you get the house, the owner could still pay the mortgage, there are known cases of tax liens being on houses for years and the owner comes up with the money pays the liens off with interest and the house is the owners only. Most people who put money on tax lien homes find its more of a saving account as their money will earn interest. The owner can also sell the home pay the liens off. To find out more about tax liens look in your local newspaper their advertised also contact the local municipalities they give you more information, any tax department will give this information as this is open to the public..
