Is the form you have a 1040EZ? It's not too hard to fill it out - you can download instructions at irs.gov if you need help. The instructions will also tell you where to mail it.

Note: HE will have to sign the return before you mail it - so if you told him you've already done it, you're busted.

LL
You attach it to your 1040 tax return, you also attach it to your state return (if any)

gsschulte
well did you fill out a tax form? did you do it online? if you did it online you dont send in tax forms or w-2's. if you sent in a form then you should have sent in a w-2 with it. we need more info

You get a tax return form online or at your local post office (for you, probably a 1040A short form), fill it out according to its instructions, attach a copy of your W-2 to it where it says to, and mail it where the form tells you to...by APRIL 15th (this year the 17th due to weekend and a Washington DC holiday).

fill out a 1040 EZ:
www.irs.gov

there should be an address in the book you got with all your forms and such. you could also go online to turbotax.com and do it all for like 10 bucks and get the money instantly. I do that and it is much better then waiting like 3 weeks.

Go to www.irs.gov, they have all the answers. You may want to hurry up and file, you have until April 14, 2007.

Well, first you shouldn't do someone elses taxes if you don't know what you are doing all the way.

You have two options.

You can download TaxAct at www.taxact.com and use the free version that does not include filing state taxes. You even have the option to do free direct deposit into his bank account, although you don't have to.

or

If you already have the form filled out as you said, here is a website that will tell you where to send the form:
http://www.irs.gov/file/content/0,,id=105693,00.html

All you need to do is send the W-2 form, along with a 1040 or 1040ez. If you need to still fill out the W2 form I recommend using the taxact software I mentioned. If you feel more comfortable doing it the traditional way, a 1040 can be picked up at a local post office or library, or you can download it here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf

I'm not sure what his circumstance is, but you may be able to use the 1040EZ. (it's easier) That can be downloaded here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040ez.pdf

No matter what you should be safe with the 1040 though. Again, I recommend using the taxact software because all it does is ask you questions, you don't fill out any forms yourself.

If you do not use taxact MAKE SURE you send these three things:

The 1040 or 1040ez form
The appropriate W2 form
Payment if required.

Be sure to make a copy of everything you send them.

That takes care of federal taxes. He still may need to file state taxes. You'd have to look up "Filing my <your state here> state taxes" on google for more specific instructions on how to do that.

I recommend having him do it. You are legally implicated in any false information given (knowingly or otherwise) if anything goes wrong. You can still show him how to do it with the information I've outlined here.

Good luck.
