The rebate checks won't START to go out until May and it will take a couple of months to send them all out.
Here's the schedule announced by the IRS:
Three things will happen:
First, the Internal Revenue Service will start to send out letters next week reminding taxpayers to file a 2007 tax return in order to receive a 2008 economic stimulus payment. The mailings by the IRS will begin the first week in March and continue throughout the month. The informational notice, titled Economic Stimulus Payment Notice, alerts people that they may be eligible for a one-time stimulus payment of up to $600 ($1,200 married filing jointly) starting in May.
Second, the IRS will send a second notice that will be more specific, informing the recipient how much to expect in the payment and when it should arrive.
Third, The IRS will begin sending taxpayers their payments in early May. Payments will continue over several weeks during the spring and summer. A payment schedule for taxpayers will be announced by the IRS in the near future.
Keep checking the IRS rebate website for updates to the rebate schedule. |

Stimulus checks, if you're eligible for one, will be sent out in May. They are separate from your tax return, since they are actually a credit to next years taxes - they're just giving it to you this year because they want you to spend it now, to try and bolster the economy. |
