Who do I call about my not getting a W2 form?
I haven't gotten my W2 form from my previous employer and I was wondering who I should call if I don't recieve it by January 31. Some have told me to call my employer while others have told me to call the IRS. So any suggestions?
Try and contact your employer first. Have you moved recently? It'll be easier to try and get your W-2 from the source. If you don't receive it by the first week of February you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-140 and speak to a representative. They'll eventually contact your employer. But, during this time of year, they won't be in a hurry. If you don't receive your W-2 by February 15th, you can file a Substitute W-2. Usually, you need a last paycheck stub to reconstruct your wage and withholdings for this form. Good Luck.
The W-2 has to be postmarked by January 31st, not to employees by that date.

Your employer. When I've moved I've called them to give new address.

If I'm not mistaken, your employer has to have the W-2 postmarked by the 31st. If you don't receive it shortly thereafter, I would start by calling the employer. My guess is the IRS will point you there first anyway.

your employer but they have till jan 31st to give them to you

Well they have until January 31st to mail them out. So you could potentially get at the end of the first week of February.
I would first attempt to contact your previous employer. If they won't help you or call you back than contact the IRS.

You should start by contacting the HR department/director at your job. If you don't have any success, try going to IRS.gov for an answer. Also, you can use your last paystub.
