If you do nothing it'll change in a few weeks time anyway and the money should be reimbursed to you in your wages thereafter. If your worried talk to your HR department or contact the inland revenue.

find out where the tax office is that the company used and then give them a ring

You should speak to your local tax office, or your employer(s) to find out where their tax office is and then speak to them.
You need to assign your main (usually your highest paid) as the employment which attracts the tax relief.

Then you need to ask your other employer(s) for a P46 form so that you can pay tax on these employments at the nominal rate.

you need to contact your tax office.

If you phone your employers payroll department they will give you their tax reference number and the relevant tax office phone number.

When you call them you will have to quote your national insurance number.

They will send you all the forms and can also help you to fill them in.

The whole process should take only a month or so.

If you give your p45, or sign a p46 with your main employer it should get you a basic tax code temporarily in the meantime.

Hiya. The best thing to do is to go to a local Inland Revenue Enquiry Centre. They generally have nice people there and want to help. The website at http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/enq/index.htm will point you in the direction of the local one to you.

Make sure you have as much info from your two employers as you can, e.g P60's, employers tax office number (ask your employer) payslips and so on.

What you are aiming for is a Personal Allowance at your main employer (A PA is currently £5035 and it is the amount that you can earn tax free with that employer), and the other employer income will, I guess be on a BR Code (BR Code means basic rate tax at 22% because you have used all your Personal Allowance up with your main employer - geddit?)

The tax website will also give you a telephone number for you to ring them.

Good luck!!!

If you handed your main employer a P45 or correctly completed a P46 you are probably having the correct tax deducted. This will not be the case if your earnings are below the Personal Allowance threshold. In that case, contact the tax office of the company that you gave a P45 to and ask for a split code. To do this successfully, you will have to estimate how much you are going to earn in at least one job during the tax year.

RING THE TAX OFFICE WITH YOUR DETAILS

Look on your payslip to see what tax office the company you work for is registered with. Then ring that tax office and explain the situation to them.
