There's no tax for you or him to pay on a legacy. There might have been Inheritance Tax on the estate, but that's paid before either of you get your share.
If it's invested in your husband's name, there will be more tax on the income it generates than if it's invested in your name. However, there's no disadvantage if your husband banks the cheque and then pays for investments made in your name.
First you need to think about what you want to spend it on and when. If you're going to spend it now, investment doesn't come into it. If you want to spend it later, and you're looking at a substantial amount, get some independent advice. |

The cheque will have to come in his name as it`s from a will.
He cannot put it into your account unless it`s a joint account. |

transfer the money into your account, then any interest will be tax free, (if it's under your allowed limit)..you will have to fill in a tax exemption form. |

Since it is mentioned in the WILL that he should be the benecificiary than from Tax angle he has to deposit the same in his account.
It is all tax free.
To lessen the burden of tax on income that will be generated on the funds when invested received from the will, he can gift any amount to you.
This will be more acceptable with the Tax Authorities and such a transction is valid. |

He can pay it into his account and then transfer this to you. This is simply growth protection measures that you are legally allowed to do.
Then, any income that these funds produce will be at your basic rate.

It is a criminal offence for your husband not to declare this, regardless of what you do with the cheque. |

you can put the cheque into your account, but if you live in the UK the moment the cheque is processed into the bank, then it will be taxed at source ( your account) weather you pay tax or not. and then you will be making interest on it if it is a higher amount. |

If money wasn't the reason in the first place when u came together.
why has it become an issue when u are parting.
