we live in a two bed flat in a not so nice area and we have to pay 102.69 a month. we only get £600 a month and out of that we need £135 rent, £140 shopping, £31 telephone, £10 internet, £20 water rates and £5 tv license, on top of that theres the debt my bf is in.

These are just some of the reasons that I wil continue to support the BNP.

For years, National Government has been piling more and more responsibilities onto local authorities, while cutting the grant paid to them.
This is so that they can cut the headline rate of Income Tax, which is the only thing the British Electorate seems to be bothered about. Rich people in the media who pay more Income Tax than Council Tax have lobbied all the parties and persuaded them all that Income Tax must be cut at whatever cost to the poor.
Taking away business rates from local authorities too deprived them of revenue, which then had to go onto Council Tax.

£600 a month... is that altogether between 2 of you? Do you claim any benefits? If so you may be entitled to a discount. If you have the bill to hand, there should be some info on the back. Or here's some info:

Put in a claim for housing benefit and council tax benefit. If you or your boyfriend are working 16 - 30 hours per week, you may be entitled to working tax credits.
You can do a benefit calculation on the site below, to see what your entitlement is likely to be. You don't have to register and will remain anonymous (and its free). Good luck. |

You are slowly paying the price of having debt and before long unless you are careful with the spending you will have nothing after you get paid.
£140 on shopping? £31 for phone? What phone? I bought a pay as you talk for £20 and don't spend £30 for weeks! It's just a phone.
Don't blame the council tax as unfair as that is and if you think that your council tax is too high, appeal. I live in a 3 bed semi in Mid Bedfordshire and only pay £111 per month so you might have a point.
