You should have given your employer a P45 (from your last employer) or filled in a P46. If not you will be taxed at basic rate, although you will get it back eventually. If what you say is true (your earnings are gross) and you have no other sources of income, you should not pay tax.

No you should not have to pay tax as it is under the basic tax code of £5220. You should pay a small amount of ni.
If you are having tax deducted you will receive a tax refund, but check what your tax code is and speak to your employer or local tax office. |

That is below your personal allowance, so you won't pay tax. |

You will be paying National Insurance but should not have to pay tax while you are a full time student. See your employer if they are deducting tax from your salary as they should not be. If they have taken any money incorrectly, you will be entitled to have it paid back to you. |

Sorry. Olliedog is wrong. Form P46S only applies to students who work solely at holiday time. Also tax office won't give it to students. Forms are sent to employers to issue. When did you start? Have you had any payslips yet? If so, what code number is your employer using?
Your employer should have asked you to sign a form P46 to say it is your only or main job. I assume this is your first job, and that you didn't take form P45 from a previous employer? Employer should be using code 522L, which represents your personal tax allowance of £5225. You therefore should not be currently paying tax. If any problems, contact employer's tax office. The staff don't bite! |

You shouldnt pay tax. But the tax office need to work out your code and give it you to give your employers, otherwise they will deduct tax. So if you havent already, get in touch with the tax office. |

If you contact the tax office, they will send you a form to fill in which exempts you from paying tax while you are a student. Can't remember what the form is called though. |
