What would ya'll have done had this rebate check not gone out? Better yet... what in the world did you all do with your tax refunds that were refunded not just a couple months ago? |

I agree with you brown eye girl...
everything has gone up except for our paychecks. My apartment prices are going up, and so is my cable, and electricity.
Your right though, it IS money we would normally not have, so instead of putting it towards bills, I am looking at it as a gift to myself. lol..
I am going to go on a shopping spree for myself, and of course filling up my tank (lol) and I am putting part of it away in savings. |

Because everyone is hurting so much for money. Everything has gone up except for our paychecks. I get a 3% raise once a year but I am sure that everything I have to pay for has gone up more than that.
To the ppl that suggest that we budget our money...are you kidding me? I HAD a budget for gas/groceries.....that is out the window now....I ONLY got to work and home, we ONLY eat what we always have....nothing on my end has changed, not even my paycheck! But for the past two weeks, gas has gone up EVERYDAY....my check didnt! Wake up! Some ppl live paycheck to paycheck, that is just the way it is. |

Because we have bills to pay, and kids to feed! The paycheck isn't adjusting for the 23-40% rise in groceries and gas, etc. |

I think people are worrying about it because most people really could use the money. Not everyone makes enough money that $600 or $1200 doesn't make a difference in their lives. They're probably just excited.
Also, they are probably worried that somehow they were missed along the way. There was a lot of talk about "early payments" that most of us haven't received yet. |

I can't wait for the check bc we're struggling to make ends meet now and it will sure help with all the bills. I'm saving almost all if not all. Plus in my opinion you need to save all you can because I think this is going to send us into a depression, the US borrowed this money from China! |

Because people are scared. We live on a budget. That budget doesn't work when everything goes up except your paycheck. What would have cost $100 at the grocery store, now cost $140. I could fill up my gas tank for $40, now it takes close to $100. Even with cutting back on non essentials, like extras on the phone service and satelite TV, we are feeling the pinch, like everyone else.
I agree that some people are probably spending it before they get it, but most people just really need the money to help offset day to day expenses. It will go to pay bills and act as a cushion for my family. We will stock up the freezer and pantry ( did you guys know you can freeze gallons of milk?), fill up the tanks ( before it goes up again the day after my check arrives!), and put the rest in the bank! |

It is unexpected and anything is better than nothing. My son got his yesterdayand it was pretty nice. Still haven't seen mine. |

Because gas is almost $4 a gallon and the price of food is so high. Personally i'm going to invest mine. I know there are plenty of people that are gonna spend it on all kinds of crap but people be wise, like the poster says this is money we wouldn't normally have.... |

Because they are so anxious to get that big fat check, they don't have any patience, so when the mailman drives by and they go out to check their mail, and they discover the big fat check that they are waiting on has not arrived, they go into lunatic mode.

Expectations are everything. People didn't pay close attention to what the rules really were, and just assumed they'd get the maximum amount and get it early. Now they are disappointed and upset, especially those who planned their finances based on their wrong assumptions.
So instead of looking at it as free money and being glad to have it, they are ticked off because the aren't getting what they think they are "entitled" to. |

Most of us need it just to get by.
Money like this comes around never for most of us, and we need it to buy food, gas, make payments etc.
you are fortunate if you don't HAVE to use it for that. |

Probably because you plan your money well enough that you're not living paycheck to paycheck. I am amazed at how people spend it before they ever get a check in hand. |

I am freaking out because....I am behind on my bills because my husband works on commission and no one wants to get their car fixed because they have no money. This means he is not making any money and I have kids to feed! |
