Why are people who are not getting the stimulus package rebate so angry?
Don't they realize that the basic purpose of this rebate is not to help them pay their bills, or make ends meet, or help them afford school, or anything like that.

The only purpose is to help inject enough money into the economy to ward off a recession (that may or may not already be here).

The government simply calculated how many billions of $$ was needed to do this, divided that by the number of taxpayers, and figured that they didn't need to give any additional money to people with no income, people with too much income, adult dependent college students, etc.

It's purely a mathematical calculation. Nothing personal about it; no attempt to "stick it to" someone (as a recent question indicated).

Nothing more than what minimum $$ amount was needed to help stabilize the economy.

And some of them shouldn't be complaining, since they'll get it next year.

Even though you may be ineligible for the rebate now, you may still benefit under the plan.

While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.

So if you don't get the rebate now and if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009.

Some people don't realize that if they don't pay anything in they cannot get anything back. Too many people expect something for nothing (See EIC). My beef would be the tens of millions of dollars the gov't is wasting by sending out all of the various mailers. I've gotten two already.

Ever see hogs feeding at a trough? Get the picture?

Bush and Congress CLAIM that it's to ward off a recession. At less than 1% of the GNP it's hardly likely to do much good at all. Given that many folks will use it to pay past-due bills or sock it away for a rainy day the total impact will probaby be less than 1/2% of the GNP at best.

The real motivation is that it's a shameless, budget-busting vote buy from all of the sleazy politicians involved. No more, no less.

Our current fiscal crisis is borne upon mind-numbingly stupid tax policy -- cutting taxes during an expensive war, the first time in the history of the nation -- and an administration that is opposed to any government regulation of businesses. This combined to trigger the widening mortgage meltdown and drove the national debt to record levels. The deficit growth under Idiot Bush is greater than the combined deficits of ALL prior administrations COMBINED.

The "stimulus plan" doubles the proposed FY08 deficit and beyond and the current Lame Duck won't be there to sort it out -- not that he has the brains to do it in the first place. Your great great great great great great great grandchildren thank him in advance for the taxes that they will be paying to pay off the damage caused by this MORON and his cronies in Congress and unregulated "Businesses Gone Wild."

I'm getting one and am p1ssed about the hypocricy of the whole stupid mess.

It may not seem personal to you, but when millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet due to the increase in oil prices, which, increases the prices of all consumer goods and services, American get p****d off. People need the money to pay off what they already owe, they aren't going to boost the economy with new purchases. Plain and simple. Until, the gov't decides to make some huge changes, it will continue to get worse. Raising pay passes costs to the employers, which in turn raises costs for consumers. It is a never ending circle. The president has allowed this to continue for so long they had to come up with some BS to cover their behinds.

And for those of who do taxes for a living, it's a nightmare that won't go away.

People are still whining about the rebate in 2001! The volunteer sites are being swamped by retirees asking for help filing out the form (I predict there will be a shortage of volunteers next year!), A number of profressional preparers took up the slack offering to prepare 1040As for free to former cients and relatives of paying clients....

The IRS is now swamped with millions of stimulus requests--this will slow down the data entry of current returns, 1040X forms and the phone line is now backed up for hours because of people calling to ask if they are eligible. (And when the checks start getting issued, the calls will go back up asking why people who didn't pay taxes didn't get the full $600 or why dependents didn't get their own checks....)
