Why are the people that paid the least amount of taxes getting a stimulus check?
I won't be getting a tax rebate check because apparently I made too much money. I busted my hump last year, paid a ton in taxes and now some trailer doosh is going to get a check and I'm not? Isn't our president a republican? Why is he redistributing my wealth to the poor? I thought stealing from the rich and giving to the poor was a democrat or liberal theme. Isn't there some legal precedent against this? Do you think its fair that just because I EARNED more money than other people I get penalized for it?

Hey there Halry Rider!

My manicurist told me that I should expect $6,700 in March and $12,000 next year to help stimulate the economy. You don’t have to worry about it unless you make over $275k a year from what I was told. It would be less but one of the benefits of gay marriage is two separate tax returns!
I have been out stimulating the economy like a motherf#cker lately! I just bought some new chaps and boots!

if our counry would get off its butt and make " real" good paying jobs instead of sending it off to other counties we would not be in such a big mess. My husband made a comfortable 60,000+ a year we own a large home in a good neihborhood and 3 kids. Then his job moved to mexico a year ago and now we both work 50+ hrs a week and pray we don't loose everything.
In my state they keep claiming we have more jobs coming in but they are all min wage.
Just be happy all this crap hasn't knocked you down on the pay scale.
Besides what is wrong with helping out those less fortunate. Then and now we give whenever we can. Even if it is donating clothes that my kids outgrow or giving a friend gas money so they can make it to work.

It is the people who earn the less that seems to bust there butt for what they have Just because you make more doesn't mean you work any harder than my husband who bust his butt for over 10 hours each day and has to support a family of five on 24,000 a year If you are making so good what is 600 to you anyway? When it is a lot of money to someone who barely makes that every two weeks. Just thank God you are so blessed that you have a good paying job and don't worry so much if those who make less but work real hard gets a break every now and then

I am just responding to the two idiots that say it is because of bad choices and how could I dare raise a family on that. I don't have a lot but I appreciate what I have and my children never go without anything I live in a 3 bedroom house and have two good running cars I pay taxes just like any one else and no Me and my husband have never done drugs and we both graduated high school I didn't get knocked up as a teenager in fact I went through alot to get my three beautiful boys Jobs are few and far between and my husband got laid off no fault of his own and he had to take what he could get I feel sorry for "cornport" and "brain J " those that think they are so much better than every one else I wouldn't be surprised if God took it all away

The point is to stimulate the economy, so the money will go to people who earned less. The thought being that people who earned more are more likely to save or invest the money and the gov't wants it directly going into circulation and poorer people are more likely to spend it right away (yes this sound dumb, but it's true). Also, the deficit is so huge right now there's no way the gov't could give the rebate to everyone, so yes you get stuck, but hey at least you earn a decent living so technically you don't need the extra money (according to the gov't)

Congress is the group who wrote and passed the law. If they excluded you because you made too much money, that's who your quarrel is with.

ll_solcorp
I'm a Conservative also. But I disagree with you to a certain extent.

First:
Low income families seem more likely to spend $500.00 in a way that will help the economy, for one. They might buy groceries, or a new TV, or even use the money as seed for a house down payment--all of which are good for the economy. If you made 100K last year, you can already buy a new TV and chances are you could come up with a down payment for a large item all on your own. You would be less likely to use the money in a way that would help shake off a recession.

Second:
There is nothing wrong with offering the working poor a hand up. Global economic forces are keeping some people from being able to just earn their way out of poverty. Unless we want to ensure that all people who earn less than 50K a year will automatically vote Democrat in every election, then we should to try to reach out to them economically.

If we help some people make their lives better, don't you think some of those people will join the conservative movement when they finally do have assets to protect?

This is when you get poor people whining that its about time they get paid. Angela is going to be getting a check for being an idiot. Raising a family of 5 on $24k per year? That's just not right. I certainly hope some of that $24k goes into a college fund so your kids get a fair shot at life. Its Robin Hood economics - and it will only get worse if a demo gets into office. What makes it worse is that the poor are already subsidized by the rich. Head of households that are making less than $30k per year actually pay less into the system than what is allocated to them. Most scholars will agree that the tax system is unconstitutional, but who ever said the govt is fair?

All very, very good points.

"HD William", since you're doing fairly well -- just like I am -- we should be hoping that those $600 and $1,200 rebates being handed out WILL stimulate the economy because I -- and hopefully, you too, since you're doing well -- have a ton of money invested in the stock market that will certainly benefit if this stimulus package thing works.

"lepr0kan's" point was OK. I differ with him on one point. Actually, the deficit right now is so very high that it really wouldn't have had any impact -- or maybe just a negligible one -- if everyone had been given a rebate check.

"chocolahoma's" first point was right on target. His second point -- though, true now -- wasn't supposed to be the case. This stimulus package was supposed to be only for that -- that is, to stimulate the economy. It wasn't meant to offer the working poor a hand up (as he put it). (There are other federal, state, and local programs for that cause.) If the economy could have been stimulated by just giving the rebate checks to 10 people, then they should only have done that. It wasn't until wasteful lobbying groups like AARP and certain veterans groups got involve that this thing got way out of hand.

And, as for "Angela's" point of view. She's confusing "working hard" with "working smart." As I was growing up I tried to make the right decisions. I could've knocked-up my girlfriend and set my path toward a difficult future; I could've chosen to start using drugs and messed up my life; I could've decided to drop out of high school instead of sacrificing to go to college. My parents could've mad bad decisions and really messed up my future. (The sins of the fathers sometimes fall on the children.) Looking back, we've all made decisions that we wish we hadn't. It's those that made the right decisions that aren't in the bind that she's talking about.

(There's a difference between sacrificing to make good decisions rather than suffering because of bad decicsions. Keep on making good decisions and these $600/$1,200 rebates being handed out won't bother you.)
