whiteriver girl | Why are the people who had there taxes done by H&R Block have to wait for there Stimulus Checks? |
I had direct deposit on my tax check. But I was told I had to wait for my stimulus check to be sent by mail. They wouldn't answer my questions on why. |

From the IRS:
Q. I chose direct deposit for my 2007 tax refund but also requested a refund anticipation loan (RAL) from my preparer. How does that affect my stimulus payment?
A. Taxpayers who use Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs) or enter into any other loans or financial agreements with a tax professional, such as agreeing to have return preparation fees deducted from their refunds, cannot receive their stimulus payments by direct deposit and instead will get paper checks based on the paper check distribution schedule.
Q. I chose direct deposit for my 2007 tax refund but also requested my electronic filing and/or tax preparation fees be deducted from my refund. Does that affect my stimulus payment?
A. If you requested that your electronic filing or tax preparation fee be deducted from the amount of your refund, you have entered into a financial agreement with the tax preparation provider or e-file software company for a refund anticipated check (RAC). Both Refund Anticipation Checks (RACs) and Refund Anticipation Loans (RALs) are bank products. The money that is deposited into your bank account comes from the financial institution associated with your electronic filing software provider or tax preparation provider, not directly from the IRS. Taxpayers who use RALs, RACs or enter into similar loans or financial agreements with their tax professional or tax software companies will not receive their economic stimulus payments by direct deposit. Instead they will get a paper check that will be issued according to the schedule that has been published for paper check distribution.
Q. I chose to have my tax refund deposited onto a "stored value card" or debit card through the professional tax preparer I used. Will my stimulus payment be directly deposited onto that same stored value card or debit card account?
A. Yes, unless you requested a refund anticipation loan (RAL) through your tax professional or the stored value card or debit card account has been closed, in which case you will receive your economic stimulus payment by paper check. Because the IRS must wait until the money is returned, this process may take several weeks.
Don't go to block nor jackson-dimwit nor use any thing they offer. It will rip you off. A RAL, for example is a loan on your OWN MONEY. If the taxpayer is due a refund, it means that the taxpayer has given the government an interest free loan. Rather than show the client the importance of keeping their money and the time value of money, block, jackson-nitwitt and a few other storefront seasonal preparers fast talk the prospective client in to getting a loan on money that is the taxpayers!! The taxpayer overpaid his income tax. Instead of receiving his money back with interest, he is bilked into getting a loan on his own money which has not grown!! His income tax liability has been fraudulently increased!! The income tax liability has not been increased by the government, but by nefarious shysters. It should be made illegal, but our do nothing Congress has no interest in serving nor educating their constituents. Furthermore, the client is seldom informed that he/she may be turned down for the loan due to a government agency seizure or the IRS wanting to examine the return. That means you pay the ERO and bank fees in vain. Here's a couple that may be decent: Free1040Now, TaxAct, TurboTax {if bug has been killed}, FreeTaxUSA. Not block's Taxcut! There have been testimonials on this board about how bad it is for several reasons. The others are free so long as you only do the Federal and ignore all the pop-ups to go to a deluxe or use Lasser. Unless you are in a complicated tax situation, you do not need expensive software. Go to an Enrolled Agent, if need be. I found this out the hard way. |

Having filed through H&R Block does NOT affect how you get your check. Having chosen a bank product - a Refund Anticipation Loan or Refund Anticipation Check does affect it. If you got one of those two things (where your had your H&R Block fees 'taken out' of your refund), you will get a paper check in the mail. This is because your tax return shows a direct deposit account at HSBC or another bank, not your personal account number. The IRS does not have you account number, and cannot do direct deposit. Therefore, you get a paper check.
I filed with H&R Block, and got my direct deposit with the first round. But I don't have to have fees withheld, or get a loan on my refund, so it was just direct deposit.
By the way, this would be the case no matter which tax preperation firm you used. Jackson Hewitt and Liberty are getting the same questions, I'm sure.
Hope that helps! |

It's not because of having Block prepare your taxes, it's because of how you filed and got your refund.
For the fees to be taken out, or if you got an RAL or RAC, your refund was sent by the IRS to Block, then they took out what you owed and deposited the rest to your account. The IRS had THEIR account info, not yours, so can't very well deposit your rebate to your account when they don't know what it is. So you'll get a paper check in the mail. |

The tax software or service used is irrelevant to when or how you receive your rebate. If you had them deduct the fees from your refund then you'll get a paper check in the mail, sometime between now and early July. If you paid the fees up front and didn't choose a refund loan or other financial product then your rebate will be deposited to the same bank account.
The published schedule is an estimate only and only applies if your tax return was PROCESSED by the IRS by April 15th.
If your rebate was actually transmitted yesterday then it won't post to your bank account until Monday or Tuesday at the earliest, depending upon how your bank processes ACH deposits. |

If you got either a rapid refund or agreed to have *any* tax preparation fees deducted from your refund, you must wait for a check.
This is because the IRS does *not* have your bank account information. The 3rd party bank overlaid your bank information with theirs. The legal agreement you had with the bank does not cover the stimulus check. |

There are several exceptions to the direct deposit advantage with the stimulus checks. It isn't just for H&R Block clients but for everyone.
The link below covers those exceptions. Look them over and see if one of them matches your individual situation. It will answer your question as to why your getting a paper check. |

Bottom line, because H n R block sucks. They are way overcharging you. Doing your taxes should be easy enough to do it yourself with Turbo Tax unless u own a business and even then you should have your own accountant. My accountant charges $75 to do my taxes. HnR block is minimum $150 for something you can do in 20 min with turbo tax. |
