Why spend money for something I can do better for free?

Probably because they have a reputation as a rip off and for making errors on your taxes. I go to an accountant that I trust. H&R Block doesn't have a good reputation. |

I do, just not at a physical location. I use Block's online free file.
Anywho, H & R BLock is not the end all, be all of tax prep services.
The same question could be asked of Liberty, Jackson-Hewitt or CPA's, etc. It's just whatever someone gets comfortable with.
But to tell ya, I will never go to a Block office to have my taxes done by those nimrods. |

because they charge too much i went to them for the first time last year cause my tax lady moved and they charged me 345.00 that was the last time i ever go there again maybe i will think twice if they lower their charges other than that i will NEVER go back again. |

I would not trust a part time tax preparer...use someone who actually is a professional in the business that works with people year round. The usurious interest rates on the refund anticipation loans just take advantage of the people who can least afford the charges. Shame on H&R Block |

Because I can do them myself way faster and cheaper. I enjoy doing taxes because I love math, and it's kind of like a puzzle game to see what you've won. Plus, out of the two times I've gotten them done for me, they've been messed up and I've been audited by the gov. which isn't a huge deal, but it's a pain. I'd rather do them myself and know they're correct. |

When they stop their predatory practices. I file with them, but always pay in cash and do not let them touch my refund if I have one coming. I hear horror stories about the scams they pull on people who are not as economically savoy. They are horrible, liars and impose on their staff to swindle people. I had an awesome tax consultant from HR block one year, when I was younger. He was an older guy who actually met me off the books to discuss the different ways to invest money etc. |
