Why can't the IRS tax the rich and actors MORE than the average person or family?

Whilst I possibly agree that the average actor / Company CEO pays more dollars tax than I do. I totally refute that they pay a bigger percentage, in fact I bet as a % of money in, they actually pay less of their earnings than most of mainstream America. Which translates into an undue tax burden on the middle classes.

come on shelly, it is a bracketed percentage based system.

Jen .
The do pay more

They are, you should read up on it. The american economy is on a sliding scale. The more money you bring in the more money you pay out. Say for you, your takes are one dollar on every one hundred dollars, it isn't that way for richer people and famous people. That is why if you make less than 6000 dollars in one year you don't have to pay any taxes. Richer/famous people are payin more for taxes then you are.

mimi
they do . there are different tax brackets you know.

Max
They do. The richest 10% of citizens pay something like 75% of all taxes.

Robert S
They do!

I was under the impression that the more money you make, the higher tax bracket you fall into therefore you get taxed more. I don't know anything about actors though.

Seehaze J
they already do.

Uh, they already do. Tax rates are progressive, which means that people with higher incomes pay more. The top half of earners pay over 95% of the income taxes collected, the top 10% pay almost 2/3 - what more do you want?

The rich pay way more in taxes than any one else I know...

Russ B
Well, the IRS doesn't tax anyone, all they do is enforce the tax laws. Blame your representatives if you want to blame someone.

And as you have read many times before...they pay more a lot more than the average person.

girlygurl23
How much more do you want the rich taxed? I am amazed at how people want to tax the rich, when they allready have a high burden of taxes.

Plus what is your average person and what is rich to you. What if someone said that rich is someone making more then $75000.

Tax rates should be set at an optimal level so that it does not damage revenues.

You tax the rich so much, it will hurt unemployment rates because many of these 'rich' are small business owners and you raise their cost of doing business, you will hurt those at the bottom.

Be carefull of what you ask for.

They do... The more you make, the more they take. The top 5% pay more than half the tax revenue.

They have the money to make contributions, which gives them a tax break... I would rather they donate to charity than pay taxes... Charities are better with money than the government... And they do more good.

Tommy Menudo
They do. But rich people tend to have more property, businesses, lawyers, etc... therefore they can deduct a lot more than the average person and find ways to get money back.

NSA
The IRS doesn't tax anybody, the federal, state, and local governments tax citizens

Why should anybody pay a higher percentage? Because they are in better financial condition? 10% is a perfectly good percentage.

Success should not be penalized.

nurse ratchet
Because Republicans protect the rich by the tax breaks that are always implemented when we have a republican president.

That is why I support a flat tax - everybody pays the same percentage of their income unless they are at or below poverty level.

By the way, not all actors are rich. Some are at the poverty level because they can't get work.

Dood
Because we are all equal, and it is unfair to punish a successful person with higher taxes. If you want more money, try earning more. Do NOT think you have a right to take it from someone else who has worked to earn it.

because that would be unfair... crazy as it sounds.

Because Bush and his friends put through a bill that protects the very rich from being taxed their fair share. Vote Dem.
