Why did I only get $300 back from the stimulus package tax rebate?
When I got the letter in the mail a month or two ago, based on my W2's, I was going to receive $600. Is it possible that they are breaking the payments up?

Your W-2s do not show what your rebate should be. You may have withholding in excess of $600, but the rebate is determined by your tax liability.

The most likely reason you got $300 is because you owed less than $300 of tax. If you look at your tax return, look at your tax that you actually owed (Line 44 of Form 1040, Line 28 of Form 1040A, Line 10 of Form 1040EZ). Is your amount less than $300? Then your rebate is $300.

Too many possible reasons to say. They're not breaking up the payments.

No.........looks like thats what you get........

You just got the minimum of $300 that you were eligible for. Your qualifying income determines what you should get back.

ogg08
the above are correct...

No, read the letter again - it said "UP TO" $600. You only get that much if you paid that much for federal income tax for 2007. Sounds like you paid $300 or less.

SCH
I am 100% sure it said you could qualify for UP TO $600 based on your 2007 tax return...at the point these inital letters came out that is what they said. You do not give anyone enough information to determine exactly why you only recieved $300 (you would need to give us your Gross Income, your AGI, your taxes paid, your taxes paid after any credits, ect, ect, ect). There is a rebate calculator on the IRS page...run your numbers thru it and see what it comes up with. Not everyone qualified for the full $600 rebate. You need to have had a tax liability of at least $600 to recieve a rebate of $600...
