Why did I only get $300 for my federal rebate?
I thought it was based on income i made 20k last year and I only got $300 from the federal government. I have read many of the yahoo posts and don't understand why I only got back $300 instead of the $600 i had anticipated. Would someone with some real knowledge on the subject matter enlighten me?

The rebate was based on your tax liability for the year, not your income. Look at your taxes.
Your net income tax liability is one of the following:

On Form 1040, the amount shown on Line 57 plus the amount on Line 52;
On Form 1040A, the amount shown on Line 35 plus the amount on Line 32; or
On Form 1040EZ, the amount on Line 10.

If your tax liability was between $0 and $300, you would receive a $300 rebate.
If your tax liability was between $301 and $599, you would receive that amount as the rebate.
If your tax liability was $600 or greater, you would receive a $600 rebate.

If you had education credits or big deductions on a $20K income, it's possible that your tax liability was below $300. You should receive a letter soon from the IRS showing how they reached the total for your rebate.

Hope this helps.

300 is the minimum and 600 is the max for an individual.

you must not have paid enough in. In order to get $600 you would have had to pay AT LEAST that in taxes after your rebate. You most likely didn't pay enough. Sorry.

go to irs.gov and do the stimulus calculator with your tax return. it will tell you . you also will get a letter from the IRS explaining your refund in a week or two.

Prairie Girl
The amount of your rebate depends on the amount of your tax liability. To determine how much your rebate should be look at your copy of the tax return you filed to see how much your tax liability was. If you filed a 1040, add the amounts on Line 52 and Line 57. If you filed a 1040A add the amounts of Line 32 and Line 35. If you filed a 1040EZ look at line 10. Your tax liability must be $600 or more to get a rebate of $600. If your tax liability was less than $600 then you'll only get a $300 rebate. (The amount you get when you add those figures is all the info you need -- the fact that you may have gotten a refund makes no difference).

It's based on your TAX for 2007, not your income. You get UP TO $600 - the $600 is for people whose federal income tax liability for 2007 was at least that much. Otherwise you get the amount of the tax, with a minimum of $300 assuming that you qualify for the stimulus payment.

♥Love♥
You paid in less in taxes
