Lisa | Why did I only recieve 900 on my stimulus payment? |
We are married (so we should have got 1200,right?) and I have 1 child, (so that would be 1500..according to the irs.gov website.)Well I tried to call and they could not answer my call because of a high call volume...on the website it shows reasons why it may not be as much as I was told and there is only one reason for me to believe that may be why.("You are married and your net income tax liability is less than $1,200. ") Well if this is why, what is a income tax liability and how can I calculate if it was less than 1200 ? I dont believe that is true so what can I do about it since they wont answer my call? can I send an e-mail or something? --------- any info on the net income tax liability would be awesome, thank you. Additional Details we also filed jointly if that helps. |

If you get out your tax return you can check it yourself. It would be on lines 52 and 57 if you used form 1040, or lines 32 and 35 if you used 1040EZ.
The tax liability is the amount you owe based on your income. |

I think that is the Most you can get... they base the stimulus on your 2007 taxes. Here is a stimulus cacluator from the IRS website:
http://www.irs.gov/app/espc/
Here is another note straight from IRS.GOV
Many, but not all, taxpayers qualify for the maximum basic payment of $600 for singles or $1,200 for married couples. Many parents are also receiving an additional $300 for each qualifying child, born after Dec. 31, 1990.
Your payment may be less than the maximum for one or more of the following reasons:
You are single and your net income tax liability is less than $600. If you file Form 1040 net income tax liability is the amount shown on Line 57, plus the amount on Line 52.
You are married and your net income tax liability is less than $1,200.
You are single and your adjusted gross income (AGI) is more than $75,000. On Form 1040, AGI is the amount on Line 37.
You are married filing a joint return and your AGI is more than $150,000.
You owe back taxes.
You have non-tax federal debts such as unpaid student loans or child-support obligations.
Around the same time you receive your payment, you will receive a notice from the IRS explaining how your payment was figured. It is important to keep this notice as a record of your economic stimulus payment. In addition, you’ll get a separate notice if you owe back taxes or non-tax debts. |

You essentially paid no taxes so you received the minimum rebate. (the essential word here is rebate) The system was set for a rebate of $300 to $600, those of us that paid in over 1200 in taxes received the 600. Those of you who did not pay any taxes received the minimum of 300 per. Be thankful for what you have received even though you did not pay any taxes. |

Right? No, wrong. On a joint return, $1200 is the MOST anyone gets, and to get that you have to have had tax liability of at least $1200 for 2007. If you didn't have any tax liability, or had tax under $600, you get $600 total for you and your spouse, plus $300 for your child. Oracleguru gives you the line numbers above but says 1040EZ when he meant 1040A.
Income tax liability is the tax you actually paid last year (what was withheld minus any that was refunded) plus the child tax credit amount if you got that. |

Net Income Tax Liability is the total amount of income taxes you owed for the year.
Not the amount withheld from your income.
Not the amount of any refund
Not the any additional amount you might have had to pay in.
It is the Total Income Tax |

You only received $900 because that's all you paid the government in taxes before your deductions. It stinks I know. I only got $408. My parents should have received $2200, they only got $1500. Stupid government! |

We're in the same boat. We only got $600 for us as a couple and $300 per child. They also said it because of the tax liability. It totally stinks. |
