I was talking to my mother in law this evening and I told her I would look up her information on her check to see if it had been posted yet, it had been.
She is only getting $300 for herself, it said she had 0 per child. This doesn't seem to be right.
She is rasing her two grand-daughters, she has full custody of them and they are both under 16--they are both under 10!
Any idea on what happened and what she should/can do?

If she claimed them as qualifying children, which it sounds like they are, she should get the extra $300 for each of them.
There was a problem with some of the rebates where in some cases qualifying children weren't counted for the rebate, and since these are grandkids maybe she got caught up in that. The IRS is aware of the problem and is fixing it. She could call the IRS and confirm that that's the problem. |

According to the Yahoo buzz story the IRS is going to send out additional checks to cover the child credit amounts that were previously missed.
And for those who are not eligible...don't hate! |

There have been a lot of troubles with people getting their money...The IRS is screwing up and putting money into wrong bank accounts and not paying what people are supposed to get. She should get in touch with the IRS and let them know that she was one of the ones that they screwed up on. The IRS is trying to work out all the kinks and straighten things out. Dont feel so bad, yours wasnt the only family to get screwed (again) by our government.
Dan sounds like a spoiled brat who has had everything handed to him all his life. He will grow up and get over it. If not, his opinion doesnt matter either way! |

If she claimed the two children on her tax return, she should get the additional $600. Some are not getting the payments for children because they either neglected to check the box on the tax return indicating the child could be claimed for the child tax credit or the software they used didn't check the box. Tell her to call the IRS and ask about this. If verified, they can input an adjustment that will generate the payment. |

I actually just read this on yahoo. They said that the IRS admitted to forgetting to give the 300 per kid. And there will be a check sent out in July if they were forgotten. |

She may have full custody, but she would have needed to claim them on her 2008 income tax forms.
I believe she would have needed to have earned at least $3000 dollars from taxable forms of income as well. |
