Why do Americans get so pissed off about having to pay taxes?
In one of my other questions i asked why people get so rowed up about teen pregnancy, and most people answered because its my taxes that pay for that child to be raised. Now Why are you so bothered by having to pay taxes? do you not realise that most of your taxes are funding a war and not going towards people living off the state? would you be so pissed off if ur taxes were going to mainly disabled people? im an aussie, and im more then happy to pay taxes, and im happy with what theyre being spent on, why arent americans?

First of all, what makes you the expert on American taxes?? The amount taken off of my check has not increased because of the war. My taxes go for lots of things, not the least of which are AID TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES. Maybe if you were an American, you'd understand why we get so ticked off at having to pay for other people's mistakes, ie, WELFARE or SOCIALISM. We are not socialists and don't like footing the bill for others!

The big issues, are waste...there are several stories about $10K screw drivers, most do not embrace the war, some don't want there money going for welfare. From an economic standpoint, taxes retard economic growth. Everyone has an issue with taxes...Its un-American not to.

We pay taxes on taxes, our food is taxed, our petrol has about 40 to 50 cents a gallon tax on it everything we purchase has a tax, Then we taxed locally from city taxes, state income tax on what we make ,then we are taxed again on out income from the us government. 50 percent of our earning are taxed. Most americans didnt ask to go to war with that country. 911 had nothing to even do with this war, but they pour trillions into it,, Well china and thesaudis are bailing him out. It was Bushes decision on this war.

Now why a teen would go out and get pregnant not realizeing she cannot afford to feed the kid is not very bright.
she was thinking of herself at the moment not of the kid in the future, If your old enough to have a child you should be old enough to know a kid needs feeding. If you cant afford to take care of it you dont need a child.

If you had the separate choice of keeping all of your money or only 3/4 of it, wouldn't most people regardless of the country they live in choose to keep all of it? Sharing does not come natural to alot of people, although many people would share even at their own expense. We are, after all, individuals. And, for the most part, Americans value individuality..........as long as they don't have to pay for it!

Well, for one, I don't believe in the cause of the "war" we are fighting...I still support our troops, they have all my love and respect, but I feel as if our government shouldn't have them over there...

Second, the main tax that I, and most people I feel, are opposed to, is the income tax, which, according to the Constitution (originally) is illegal because it is unapportioned...(Article I, Section 9)...

Granted, the 16th ammendment, which changes the Constitution, allows the government to levy unapportioned taxes against its citizens. I personally feel this is wrong as this is the exact type of tyranny and taxation we fought against in the Revolutionary War, and specifically wrote a section of the Constitution to protect against...yet, somehow, it got ammended that now they can do this very thing...

And why was it added? Debt...the government was up to its stinking eyeballs in debt, and decided the people needed to pay for it, and we have been paying for the governments continued debt ever since...

And things have only gotten once since the Federal Reserve was enstated in 1913. The Federal Reserve is a private banking institution that "loans" money to the government at interest, which we owe further debt to. And the money is no longer backed by anything except the "good faith of the people."

Now we're in a cycle of using our so-called money to pay interest to bankers that are loaning us this money, then re-loaning it/loaning more of it to us, and putting the profits, or interest, on it in their pockets...and the interest paid on this loaned money comes also from taxes.

I'm not saying that I'm entriely opposed to paying taxes, if they were actually going towards something. I feel the role of the governement should be limited to providing the bare minimum of social services, a military designed for protection, not invasion, and public works projects such as highway and park maintenance....

If we could restructure our system in some way (I'm not saying I'm a number crucnher that could do it, but there has to be a better way), then we could still have taxes to pay for useful things, money that is actually backed up by something, and be paying a lot LESS than what we do now...

peace.

one reason is because our congress votes pay raises for themselves and I'm still broke. Taxes pay their saleries. They also get about $200k a year after they retire and health care paid for, all by our taxes. That pisses me off.

Because they never get spent where they are most needed. They get spent paying for politicians to sit on their fat a*se's on some beautiful beach, whilst the rest of us work ours off to pay for them.

Americans are not unhappy about paying taxes, but rather about accountability in how they are being spent. It is well known that billions of dollars are being spent in "pork" projects and "help" for wealthy nations who do not need it.
The government sometimes spends two hundred dollars for a screwdriver then puts out a booklet on how to use it.
When it comes to teen age pregnancy, people get upset by the lack of planning and forethought of young people who get pregnant and then immediately go on welfare. This action sometimes goes from generation to generation with no one working and paying taxes. No one is mad at these children, just the selfish parents who have them

Katey
I think you answered your own question! I think many (but not all) Americans are upset about how their hard earned money is being spent. Some Americans probably would still be "pissed off" if our taxes were spent on disabled people, some wouldn't. It really all depends on someone's individual ideology. Hope that helped!

plenty of people ARE mad that taxes are going to a war. 50% us tried to vote that **** out of office. I think most of us feel comfortable paying taxes for certain basic things. But the philosophical argument against high taxes and vast social services is a pretty easy one to make.

I don't mind paying taxes. I can see why people would be mad that they have to pay taxes and don't get it all of it back, when someone like me, a single parent, gets all of my taxes back and then some. Sorry people.

Mad Nighteye
Because taxes make a lot of people broke. If you live on a boat or something you have to pay a LOT of taxes even if you have a good job. I personally dont mind taxes, though.

I like to think that if I am in a position of paying taxes then I am doing better than a lot of people... that being said I find it hard to not have more say in what the tax money is spent on.

Bring It On!
I don't mind what my taxes are spent on. As long as it is for fruitful enterprises, I have no problem. The wars are NOT what one would want to support. This is where I would draw the line. Since I am an American, I must grin and bear the various wars that my country participates in. I do love our soldiers and wish for all of them a healthy return - spiritually, mentally and physically. I do hope that the whole world will resolve its differences and we will all have PEACE!!!

Americans, which i'm sure other people as well, but ESPECIALLY Americans, like to find something to ***** about. I've noticed that, especially recently.

And the teen pregnancy thing, people get angry about that because the kids are so young. They're throwing their youth away, basically.

Lucy
i hope you're not assuming all americans are thinking this from a few yahoo answers..
i saw the Q&A's you asked about w/ the pregnancy & was kind of shocked to see most of people's reasons had to do with taxes.. thats lame. but so is the fact that the majority of the people feel like they're in a place to judge someone..

i think ppl getting rowed up about teen pregnancy goes back to years ago when basically everything was shunned, however more & more ppl are growing out of those ideas.. sadly teens being pregnant isn't so shockign at all anymore.. I say sadly because most the teens i know with babies aren't capable of providing a stable life for them that they deserve

Unfortunately, the general population of the US has been weaned to want to take advantage of society on their terms, but not have to be the one who pays for this.

I am of the mindset that if you are a member of society, well, it takes money to keep a society functioning. I like the thought of everyone being given the same level of human dignity no matter who they are... that includes healthcare... doesn't include wars.

Tracy
First off "silly world" who thinks american's are known for their selfishness needs to hop off because that person is probably not having thousands of dollars deducted from their hard earned paychecks to pay for bullshit. from food to gas to clothes to any little thing we are being taxed... all the meters in the city all the red light camera tickets everyone just pays all this money to the government and where does it all go ?!??! the roads aren't being fixed the roads aren't even being plowed ! where the hell is all our money going.. the war is not even in process right now why are our soldiers still there getting shot when nobody appreciates them ?! we need to help our selves first instead of picking up all our money and sending it to different countries for them to build weapons and attack us with . i say the government should show us a break down of where all our money is going. i'm so tired of seeing. "other fees and other taxes" taken out of my check and i dont know where its going !

I am a disabled american, I just got my disability last July. I am pissed off because, they don't take any disability insurance out of the check. Disability insurance is for everyone, not just me. EVERY American. Wether you work or not. I cannot work next to my american brother, but my money has no such disability, my money can, and should go towards insuring us all a retirment that is carefree, and without tax. I believe every american shoud pay into this deficet... Wouldn't be nice to have a possible over flow of money into the social security, instead of this deficet? I remember when I could work, n I see now. Anger? It is totally justified... America is givin it away for free...the government is so wrong for doing it this way...it's gotta stop like, right now. If you don't put money back into the jar your taking from, n you keep doing it...it's gonna run dry, you'll use it up. The working class can't cover it anymore, the need is too large, n it's time ALL americans step up. N you got brothers sayin, "My social security check aint going up this year, damn the government." I gotz news fo dem brothers. IT NEVER EVER WILL. The deficet affects all of america, it's going to take the ALL of America to get us out. Deficet don't care if your disabled or not. If workin Joe buys a tv for 500, n I buy the same tv for 500, the tv don't give a damn who's money baught it...the deficet don't care who pays it. Boo Hoo, I'm disabled..ok, so your disabled...Are you American? This could be the richest country on earth. Why can't we change the law. I had to get this off my chest, oh, dose anyone else give a s**t?

becalm
Rugged individuality leads to this kind of thinking. Americans feel that everyone should be able to take care of themselves and should a person need a handout, that person is less of a human being for it. Taxes are used to help others, they are the contribution people make to keep society healthy and functioning but if you believe you must do it by yourself, then it seems that you're being robbed by inferior people. You'll note all through this thread you can feel the anger and hostility that this topic causes. But these people make a mistake. They don't realize that they can not make it on their own; that their success is built on people helping each other (financially, through good government programs, union that have made it possible for these guys to even have time to write blogs). I'm afraid they will succeed in actually killing everything they have just so they can save a buck.
