Why do I pay Medicare Tax when I'm not even past my probation period at my job?
Does everyone gets deducted no matter what their status is? (FT, PT, PD, etc)

You are finding yourself the victim of The democratic parties "New Deal" fiasco which created our whole welfare state form of government.
What was intended for was every 10 american workers contributed a little bit to aid one senior has now devolved to a load on every two workers, hence the imminent collapse of the medicare/medicaid social security program.

You are lucky that your country is allowing you to invest in a program that you will never be eligble for by the time you hit retirement age.

Anyone else notice that your FICA withholdings this year exceeded (double in my case) the Taxes withheld?

Akbar B
You pay so that all the seniors can continue getting social security and Medicare health benefits. Hopefully when you retire you will get it too.

Everyone gets that tax on every pay check if you work for a medium to large company. You have no say over the matter.

sangreal
if you are making money at your job they are taking taxes out (or they should be). you could work 2 hours a week and they would still take taxes out of your check.

Yes, you pay social security and medicare taxes from the first dollar on a job, whether you're full or part time, or still on probation or not.

Medicare Tax is madatory. It is what is called a FICA tax and employers and employees pay equal amounts. As a general rule, this is required for all employees the recieve a W-2 form at the end of the year.

Medicare tax has nothing to do with your "probation" period at you job or any deduction your employer takes for your health care. All the folks receiving Medicare appreciate your contribution.

Actually, not everybody. People who are not paying taxes are those who take cash only. Day laborers are famous for this, as well as yard workers, house cleaners, child care providers, etc.

mystery_me
Everybody pays medicare and social security.
