Joe | Why do People Pay to E-file? |
I think it typically costs about $15 to E-file a tax return.
Why would people pay that money?
I am just as happy to print my tax forms and mail them. It's not worth me paying $15 to get my return a few weeks earlier. And, why should I pay to reduce the work that Uncle Sam needs to do. Shouldn't Uncle Sam be tickled pink when someone efiles because it probably saves employees from having to do work, thus saving money?
Do you pay to efile? If so, what are your views? Additional Details Soror... and the guy who fixes your car can sabotage it too. Do you trust him? |

Bottom line is that it is easier to do. No making copies, folding, stapling the check in a specific spot, so people are willing to pay for it. Simple as that. tba |

You can efile for free if your income is inder $53,000. Go to the IRS web site www.irs.gov and it will give you a list of companies that are approved by the IRS. The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to use this free service.
Disclaimer: I am a professional tax preparer for a CPA. I still encourage my clients to use this service if they have a simple return to do. |

I efile through Taxslayer.com, which is free for military and their dependents. :) |

It is really not that significant of an amount, in reality.
It is a convenience fee. |

typically thats done by people that need their refunds quicker than quick. really, I feel it preys on the lower end of our economic rung (thats me). For people like me, getting 2k-4k back is alot of money. That we usually need to pay bills that are already behind. Or, maybe just cuz they want to some fun money and dont want to wait. I dont do it becuase if you have your refund direct deposited its almost as quick. And I refuse to pay such BS fees. |

I pay to e file. I know it gets there and I do not have to worry about the Us postal service getting it to where it needs to be. |

One reason no one mentioned about e-filing is that it eliminates input error on the IRS side.
When returns are mailed in, an IRS employee enters the information from the return into a computer.
I applied for the position of Data Transcriber with the IRS. These people are not tax trained. All they do is enter the heading information, form number then line number and amount. They don't do any error checking and it is possible that they will make a mistake.
H & R Block does not charge to e-file returns unless the return was not prepared by Block.
You have to ask yourself: Is it worth the extra money to reduce the possibility of any errors or possibly and audit? |

I don't know anyone who pays to e-file. I work for the nations largest tax firm, and we now charge more for people who 'paper file' because of all the extra printing (I think it's $2 more). We do not charge anything in addition to tax preperation to e-file the return. You can also e-file for free on the IRS website if you meet certain qualifications.
The reasons to e-file? Have you heard about the IRS agents who stuffed returns in ceiling tiles because their workload was too heavy? Caused a lot of people headaches when the IRS told them they hadn't filed. Have you never had anything get lost in the mail? When you e-file, you get a Declaration Control Number (DCN) that tells you your return is safely at the IRS. You also cut down the time it takes to get any refund due you by 2 weeks or more.
I don't pay to e-file, or to have my return prepared - because I can do it myself for free at work. Even the small perks are great! |

I pay to e-File.
It does save the government a lot of money, but the government needs it in a special format, and the people that develop the software to take your return and put it into that format want to get paid for doing that, so they charge you a fee.
For those who have incomes of $50,000 or less, the federal return can be e-Filed at no charge through a program called "Free File."
I pay for mine because I like to e-File the state's return as well.
The benefits (no assembling all the paper forms, no mailing it and wondering if the post office got it delivered, no additional waiting for someone to process the return before I get my refund) far outweigh the cost for me. |

They do this because someone makes them think it's faster to do it that way. |
