Why do people answer questions they don't know the answer to?
Someone just asked if he could deduct the money he lose in stocks. Everyone answered 'no'. But that's wrong. You can deduct capital loses up to $3,000. Here is the tax form to do it:

Why do you people answer questions you obviously don't know the answer to?

Very good question and I wish to thank you for asking it. I understand your concern and cynicism, and could not sympathize with you more. I just wish I knew the answer. My guess is they either think they know, in which case they usually don't know, or they know they know, in which case they definitely don't know, unless they get lucky. Although ignorant people who have enough time in their life to waste wasting other people's time very seldom do get lucky. Sometimes, they are so pathetic that they feel the need to "shine", going on and on about a subject they know nothing about, sometimes even diverging to other subjects they know even less about in endless run-on sentences, obviously oblivious to the fact that each and every word they add to their answer does nothing more than show the world how ignorant and pathetic they really are. In a way, I feel sorry for these people and I forgive their lack of knowledge, understanding, and awareness. The bottom line is: "Very few in this world are not losers. Always has been, always will." I think I read that in the bible or something.

Well, to be honest...if you've used this site before, then you know what it's all about.

People do think they know everything, but at the same time...I would definitely NOT ask financial questions on this site - especially when 13 year olds are answering the questions...they have no idea what stocks are, or what is happening in the economy or with the bailout plans, etc....

People need to go to a financial advisor for that type of advice...

And you can use an unlimited amount of losses against other gains in the same and future tax years.

You'll find some terrible answers here in this forum, as well as some excellent advice. Hang around for a while and you'll see who the experts are.
